I haven’t been on the forum much as I’m finding managing three dogs with very different exercise needs very time consuming.
Whilst at home the puppy needs watching almost every minute of the day that she’s not in her pen as she’s been super inventive thinking up trouble to get in to.
But it’s the puddles on the floor that are driving me to distraction and now this week she is 6 months and we are not completely reliable. It’s not that I don’t know what I’m doing, she’s my 4th puppy in the last 7 years and I’ve always reckoned that I have totally cracked it by 16 weeks. Her cues are so subtle and she wees so quickly after giving them that unless you are with her and respond immediately there is yet another puddle.
I’m not looking for suggestions, I’m using a special floor cleaner and I’ve taught her to wee on cue but she’s the first girl I’ve had for 30 years and I wondered if they were more difficult. I have a friend with a boy from the litter and I know that she hasn’t had any problems but I was thinking that it was just my lack of focus UNTIL
I was introduced and went for a walk with one of her litter sisters. This is another experienced Labrador owner and she happened to mention how almost impossible the sister was to house train, she had even had the puppy investigated for a UTI !!! I could have hugged the woman and we really bonded over this problem. Sometimes when we think we are failing it’s just that the odds are stacked against us. We will get there but the continual rain and dark nights are SO not helping!
