Hunter had a fight with his nemesis

Rourke attacked the neighbour's collie/cross, it had been barking through the fence at him and he of course barked back. We met them outside and Rourke went in for the kill, the neighbour went very red, but was very understanding. I think certain dogs threaten our dogs and is is fear which makes them strike back. Try to put it behind you. It is dog language and we expect them to abide by our rules!

These situations are so upsetting. I’m sorry you’ve had this happen but as everyone else has said neither dog was injured and it was more show than go, so try not to stress over it. I would definitely look into finding a harness that will work, though. That will ensure this won’t happen again. Hope you have a restful night and feel better tomorrow.

Please don't feel bad Lorraine, as our other friends have said we have all been there. My goodness, the number of times I have had to apologise for Maxx....I am angry about the kicking though as that was an extreme and unnecessary reaction.

Thank you for asking. Still feeling a little upset. I slept bad as expected. I put his old Julus K9 harness on for the walk this morning. It was more for me than Hunter. I was constantly on the look out for any dogs and any potential stress situations. Luckily we only met nice dogs and lots of Corona pups My confidence took a big hit yesterday. It wil get better I know. X

Sorry that's you've been through this. I find BC's can be so quick to lose their tempers and Labs are so oafish- they really are a bad combination. Hope you feel a bit more relaxed soon.

Ugh, I'm so sorry this happened to you. Harness is definitely a good idea.

Others can tell me I'm being mad for suggesting this (and maybe I am), but would it be possible to talk to the owners of Boa on your own without Hunter by your side? Their reaction (kicking Hunter) is understandable if they were acting out of fear - I'm not saying it was right, mind you, just "understandble". Now tensions seem ramped up not only between Hunter and their dog, but between the humans. That could make further encounters even uglier. Maybe if you made the good-will gesture to apologise for what was an accident, explain that you are buying a harness for Hunter so that the same thing doesn't happen again, but also ask that if the dogs ever do come in contact again, not to resort to kicking as you all know at this point that any encounter is going to be a lot of scary noise but no actual harm.

Again, this may be a terrible idea. But it also may reduce your stress and keep them from spreading nasty gossip about Hunter that doesn't help anyone. What do others think?

@Emily_Babbelhund I was also shouting sorry sorry as well. I have tried earlier to speak to the guy whilst passing him walking to my car. He just gave me a talk to the hand sign. So he is not open to help improve the situation. Boa does seem to irritate other adultr male dogs. I can understand how difficult that would be especially where we live with such a high density of dog owners. We just got back from the beach. Hunter behaved really well apart from the last 5 mins. The fluffy gorgeous retriever was just too much for the last of his remaining hormones. No aggressiveness to other dogs which really helped me feel much better. This is just part and parcel of being a dog owner. X
