Hunter

Hunter is now four months old. I thought it was time for a photo update. They grow so quick. From certain angles he looks like a dog not a puppy . His training is coming along slowly but nicely, she says with fingers crossed. We go for two lead walks a day just down our lane and he’s met quite a few dogs. He’s a bit cautious at first especially if the other dog is interested in him. If or when the other dog ignores him he bounces and bows at them. There is also some barking but, unlike with Scott and Scout, it’s play not fear. He’s doing well with recall at the moment I know that could go pear shaped any day. It’s a pure fluke because training recall has never been my strong point. We’re also working on stay with a release cue, distance sit, leave and of course drop. He’s doing well. Of course the one thing he should be naturally good at, retrieving, he’s not that bothered about. Sometimes he’ll bring it back sometimes he won’t bother.🤪4AC9E854-9AFF-4D9D-953D-1C3F2CC15350.jpeg794FB0AA-972B-4900-AA69-EA1675B7BFD1.jpeg

Hunter is adorable, has all the makings of a very handsome dog !
Great to read your update, sounds like his training is coming on well "slowly but nicely" is the way to go I think!
Cass was never bothered about retrieving for retrieving sake, it was a question of finding out what makes her tick and what she finds worthwhile.
Does it matter to you if he wants to retrieve or not?

Oh he is gorgeous 🥰

I gave up on day to day recall and concentrated on an emergency recall that took 1 year to build but is working beautifully. Maxx was an absconder off lead
I’ve just read your emergency recall thread. Wow ! You certainly got cooooeeee to be an automatic response from Maxx. It’s brilliant. Well done Maxx. I bet it felt so good when he turned and raced back to you . I’m going for a similar thing with an emergency recall. Not sure it’ll work as Hunter is still so young and we‘ve got to get through the “teenage phase” yet. I noticed quite by accident that if I said here now rather than just here he repeatedly came straight away so that’s what I’m going with.:fingers:

@Selina27 I’m not too bothered about the retrieving. Scott and Scout were a little bit like Cass. I had to work on their retrieving drive especially Scott. When Hunter’s in the mood he retrieves quite well although it quite often turns into zoomies with him racing through my legs. So far he’s always been on target but one day ….. :tmi:

Hunter is now five months old. He’s just having his first nap in his full size crate. I’m trying to get him used to it before bedtime. I’m just hoping it’s not too big and makes his housetraining go backwards. He’s gone from a medium, which I’d borrowed off my cousin, to extra large which I have two of from Scott and Scout. He completely fills the medium now. I also found a fith baby tooth this morning. He actually spat it out in front of me. I wondered why he wasn’t chewing his kong with quite as much gusto this morning I guess it was because his tooth was loose. I think he’s got all his front top and bottom big teeth now except canines. It’s hard to believe I’ve only had him three months it feels like forever (in a good way 😉) and even harder to believe how much he’s grown in three months. He still likes to climb on your knee for a cuddle though only difference he doesn’t need help climbing up now. :rofl:17230D0A-B12C-467C-8D54-1BC4A3976836.jpeg
