Hunter's Limping Again

Slightly better but no waggy tail still. Also very psycho I am afraid. I took him off the strong pain killers as his breathing is short and that is a known side-effect. I bought a comfy cone which is better for him. His has a bad wound on his shoulder where he was shaven and in the night he has scratched it against the wall:angry:Its is bleeding now and he continues to scratch it.
I have put a T shirt on him and a cold compress....but it was a real big fight to get it on.
Any help with ideas to stop him scratching his shoulder?
So I am taking him to my "go-to" vet for a second opinion as the stitches are still bleeding and he is very very stressed. I feel miserable.....

Oh Lorraine this is such an uphill struggle for you but you are doing a fantastic job of care for Hunter. I can't think of anything else apart from the cone and T shirt to stop the scratching other than distracting methods, maybe a good long lasting chew or some frozen kongs? The stitches really shouldn't have been bleeding this long. Good luck at the vet. Keep going. xxx :hug:

I am sorry @Loraseal, it is a worrying time for you. I hope your 'go to vet' will have some answers. I think he will feel better after stopping those painkillers, is he on steroids as this can make you psycho? The tea shirt will probably help stop the scratching, if not, could the vet prescribed some cream to rub on which will stop the itch, though I suppose you must be careful of the wound. What time are you seeing the vet? Do let us know the outcome. I do feel deeply for you.

I’m really surprised they aren’t opening the stitches to see what’s going on - the wound should have sealed by now surely? ☹

How long did it take last time?

They won't open the stitches because of his infection as it could lead to more infection!! That can actually cause more problems. Well that is what she says!
I hopefully have an appointment after lunch with my other vet as it is only a 5min car ride(he cannot walk the 10 mins) instead of 45 mins to the specialist. Goto vet is ringing me back as she wants to try and talk to the specialist......
Tomorrow is bank holiday here so I need it sorted out!
