I dont often get cross but .............

This morning I did , get cross I mean , but am now wondering if it was my fault or theirs ? We had a thunder storm and torrential rain early this morning, bliss , so when the rain stopped and the air was cool and fresh , I took Nelly to Golitha Falls for a walk , it was busy . I volunteer as a Warden for Natural England who own the site , they avidly welcome dogs , on or off lead , it is a dogs paradise . About a third into the circular walk is a lovely area with a bench and a deep pool where dogs love to swim ( not Nelly because she doesn't swim ) and totally monopolising this area was a large group of about 25 people , they had brought folding chairs and were spread out in a large circle , picnic food all over the ground on paper plates ( guess you know whats coming ! ) . I could see that this was a group having some sort of meeting . However , as we approached , Nelly went to say Hello and was very roughly pushed away by this truly horrible woman who shouted at me , saying that Nelly was interrupting their meeting . At around the same time , a friend with her two Springers , arrived at the scene and began to throw dummies into the river for her dogs and got a similar reaction , " we don't like dogs " . Red mist descended , this is a public place for everyone to enjoy , not for a large group to completely take over in what I thought was a most rude manner ! Of course , calling Nelly had no effect whatsoever , and the owners of other dogs told the group that there was no way they were going to leave the area , just because they didn't take kindly to dogs ! I did tell the horrible woman that if she pushed Nelly away again , she must be mindful that her chair was very close to the waters edge ! Maybe we should have just walked away, but it does annoy me , there are numerous places where dogs are not permitted , so why on earth chose a dog friendly one ? Takes all sorts I suppose x

I would have been SO angry if someone pushed Harley for no reason. DH is another story, unlike me he doesn't just say the words in his head - he says them out loud. Urgh! I am cross on your behalf.

Well it's a public space.
I know we should have control of our dogs but sounds li!e they were just rude.
As regular users of a space I would say your rights trumped theirs.
Glad you took no nonsense.

No Kate you have every reason to be cross. If someone pushed my dog they would have ended in the water - with no warning. This us a public area which welcomes dogs - in all shapes and sizes. It is not intended as a meeting place for groups to the exclusion of others. Really pleased to hear that you were joined by some owners and dogs of the same mind xx

Urgh I hate people who do that. As you say there’s so many places dogs aren’t allowed - why purposefully go to one they are!

A fisherman shouted at me a while ago because Stanley was splashing in the river and “scaring the fish” and trying to shoo him away. Just as I was about to reply that I didn’t give an eff our saviour came.

What he hadn’t realised is that we were out with Judge - my friends 14 stone Great Dane who is very soft but very vocal and as he started shouting Judge appeared and let out the loudest deepest bark ever. He absolutely shat himself and nearly fell in the river.

After laughing for a good while I just called Stanley and we carried on

Not your fault at all! I was cheering you on reading how you dealt with that miserable person.

I also love the phrase “red mist descended”, paints such a vivid picture, love it!

You keep carrying on, they can do one X

You handled that beautifully, Kate, and your friend with the spaniels didn't do too badly either. People are just a) inconsiderate, b) entitled, and c) lacking common sense. How do these people dress themselves in the morning, honestly.
