I have something to tell you !

I know several and all are ok except one is a bit snappy, the rest are soft as mops.
I suppose the terrier trait is there in all of them though, a soppy lap dog might be her best bet.

@Cath look at that little man Charlie - I just love their faces. Always remind me of sea otters. The only border terrier I've ever known was my first dog trainer's dog. He was a total pistol - smart as a whip, endless energy and a little clown.

I have to say, Kate, that your previous descriptions of your sister don't really mesh with the idea of her being a terrier person, but who knows. Again, maybe an older one?

I imagine her as more of a Bichon Frisé type: limited shedding in the house and she wouldn't mind the expense of regular grooming, a low key dog and basically bred to sit on your lap and go for genteel walks. They're not the sharpest tools in the shed but that can be much easier to live with and train.

Traditionally border terriers were kept and used along side packs of foxhounds. I guess that's why I see so many of them. Where I live here on Exmoor there are several hunt kennels still in place, one in our village, and many of the local people are involved with the various hunts. It is not uncommon for the odd border to go missing because it has gone to ground after a fox. I really don't think it is a dog for the faint hearted.

Yes, I know that they were for fox hunting, but all Charlie ever hunted was a dogie treat. He was so soft. He would lay down and let you strip his coat (they have to be hand stripped) and before you know it he would be asleep. I would have to wake him, to turn him over to do the other side. If I went out without him, my OH use to say Charlie's been sitting at the gate since you have been out waiting for you. In the morning when I got up, he would bring me a toy like Robbie and he never ripped or damaged any toys.
He was from show stock, his father won best of breed at Crufts.

Stanley’s best mate is Basil the Border Terrier!

I adore him and he’s a bit bonkers but generally no bother, Stanley is definitely worse than him.

I love terriers though, love their little character.

Our friend Brian has one. Buttons is ever so sweet and well behaved but I giggle every time I see them together. Brian is 6"6 fit and always has a tan. :giggl:
