I’m a bit late!

Hi I’m Peartree and it’s lovely to find all of you again. I was kindly told about this forum by Beanwood quite some time ago and have been loitering around. You all seem quite friendly and so I’ll tell you a bit more about myself.

I’ve had show labs for over twenty years but now that my children have all grown up and left home I thought that I would try gundog training with working line dogs. I have two, Diesel who is a very fast, very keen and super challenging black lab from strong field trial lines, and Bingley who is a laid back, chilled dog but with a VERY high hunt drive.

There are days when I think that I’ve got it all under control and then others when I think that I should have taken up knitting or crochet instead!:rofl::rofl:

Hi @Peartree and welcome! We'd love to see some pictures of your dogs - current and through the ages.

I have three; Willow (black bitch) and Shadow (yellow dog) who are four-year old litter mates from trialling lines, and Luna (aka Squidge) who is nearly two and a chocolate bitch from show lines. I dabble in gundog training with all three and they all love it. If I were in the UK, no doubt I'd be more active with it, aiming for working tests, but as it is, we just like to play around.

Hello and warm welcome from me and Nelly ( who is nothing like a Labrador ! ) . I lost my six year old Lab to cancer last November , they will always have my heart despite loving all dogs !
Would love to see some photos of your dogs , hope you enjoy the forum x

Hi @Peartree, I'm so very pleased to see you here, and hear about your dogs! I always appreciated your input into my gundog training threads on TLF I have Cassie who is 2yrs 4months, who I try to do gundog training with, it's been a bit stop/starty but it's starting to come together! Gradually by asking questions and reading I have pieced it together that she prefers to hunt/chase than retrieve naturally, since then I find I am making progress:) I have a lesson with a certain well known gundog trainer in the next county to me next month, finally!

Welcome Peartree, having such super Labs will keep you young, despite the odd panic attack! It has been the greatest pleasure for me, but now I am older just have the one Lab who is 6 and lame in 2 legs, however, I still enjoy the training.

Hi from me and the Pig, a Lab x English Pointer. We also dabble in gundoggery, making a lot of progress on the retrieving side with dummies, but absolutely no progress on the ‘control round deer/pheasants/any other furry-feathery-creatures’ side. I would be interested in hearing more about your experience with high hunting drive in the future, because that is our nemesis!
