What a nightmare morning. I tried cheese, pate and peanut butter. It got to the stage that she wouldn’t come near me or eat anything, even treats.
I called the vet who suggested concentrating on just the antibiotics by crushing it, adding water and syringing it into her mouth. I managed to get most of it down her, but she spat about 1/4 of it out. Going to persist with this today / tonight and have a call booked with the vet for the morning.
I hate forcing g her to do things and she is such a gentle soul 😢

she is such a gentle soul
She is, it's really horrible when you have to do that , albeit for the greater good.:hug:

It does sound like sensible advice , to get the antibiotics in if nothing else. I hope she can get enough dose to be helpful today. I guess if necessary the vets could always consider Im.

Cass of course sends much love. xx

When I am trying to get Fred to take a tablet, I make myself a tuna and mayo sandwich. His tablets are big, so before I start to eat I break the tabs in half.
I then sit down at the table with both plates which Fred can't see. I start to slowly eat and Fred comes to see if there is anything for him. I break off a small piece of my sandwich and put in half a tablet and press it togther and then give it to him. I carry on eating my sandwich and he waits for anyother piece :giggl: You could try this it works for us.

Holly hated pills too. In her final months she was having 10-12 a day. after much experimenting we started boring holes through bits of frankfurter, stuffing it with pills, then plugging the ends with leftover bits to make a pill bomb.
To avoid the frank smelling of pill one of us handled the frank and the other handled the pills.
Delivery required timing. First a sliver of pure frank to allay her suspicions, then the pill bomb quickly followed by another sliver of pure frank to make her swallow the pill bomb.
It takes effort and timing to outwit a Lab.

We do the squirty cheese russian roulette method.pill coated in cheese tube in hand squirt tube into mouth with a good old bit of cheese quickly follow with cheesie pill then another squirt from the tube. There's so much cheese coming at them they swallow it all pill and all. I try to make it exciting and fun and do practice with no pill. I've also used yogurt in a syringe for the same game.

After reading all these suggestions I’ve come to realize how spoiled I have been so far! With Axel, I simply just placed his pills on his kibble in his food bowl and he gobbled it up. Hugo I tried that but didn’t work, so instead I grab a handful of kibble with the pill and he gobbles it all up out of my hand. *knock on wood*

On Axel’s final couple of days he was just done and didn’t want to eat anymore, so I had to rely on a spoon with a gob of peanut butter and the pill inside the gob, he would lick away at the spoon and the pill would be gone.

Maybe try some ice cream? Or whipped cream? Something sweet and quick to get excited over is what I’m thinking may help?

Thanks all for your great suggestions. My OH is home tonight so we are going to try chicken as she usually gobbles it straight down.
I am working all day tomorrow so my OH has the pleasure of trying. I really don’t want to leave her even though my OH is home. She’s very much my dog.
We haven’t gone for a walk today and she hasn’t pestered me at all. Even if she is ill she pesters so it shows me how poorly she is. We walked very slowly up the garden and back twice during the day. I can see it hurts her to coupe down for a poo.
Sorry, I’m waffling. I’m just really worried about her.

Please feel free to continue to 'waffle '(except you're not, really) away as much as you feel the need to.
I'm sure most, if not all of us have been through very similar times to those you're currently experiencing, and I think I speak for us all when I say that we're all here for you.

she sniffed and walked away from it
Have you tried something with a really strong flavour, eg pate, smelly cheese (ripe brie or camembert) or peanut butter? I used all three in rotation with Wispa, making tiny sandwiches with broken up bits of tablet hidden in the pate/brie/peanut butter - and making sure the bit of tablet was well hidden! It worked best when I threw the ‘sandwiches’ for her to catch, before she had time to sniff it, maybe giving her a sandwich without a hidden bit of tablet first.
Sending lots of :thelambiesarecoming: for Harley.

I remember having to give antibiotics to one or other dog, and had the same problem you're having @Naya, so I tentatively licked the tablet myself and the taste was vile, I mead really, really horrible. I asked the vet for an alternative, stating how horrible this one tasted - the vet thought I was being ridiculous, but did sell me a different one and it went down just fine (with the usual squirty cheese or whatever).

So sorry to hear Harley is poorly, it’s so stressful when they refuse the medication. I sometimes use dairylea triangles if I’m struggling with Neo, they’re firm enough that you can ‘hide’ things quite well. Hope you find something that works for her x
