Just wondering if anyone has any experience with boughtbymany pet insurance? We were with Petplan for Lady but their prices seem to have gone up by quite a hike. They are some 40% more than boughtbymany for similar cover.

It could be that boughtbymany start cheap but escalate more than say Petplan as the dog ages.

Red’s insured with Boughtbymany. It did go up this year but I still renewed (sorry I can’t remember by how much) but not as much as other companies I have used in the past

Oddly enough I was looking to move Bear away from petplan and BBM was one I have a decent quote for.
. They pay out fast and are pretty much no quibble, but Bear's cover went from 28 to 37 as he turned one!!!! And I've only claimed for worms to date, so no existing conditions. I'm stuck with petplan for Monty, and in seven years his has gone from 25 to 58 a month which I can live with as he's uninsurable elsewhere.
But at this % increase for Bear I'll be paying 50 a month when he's 3!

Maybe it's a trend.... I'll let you know when I choose to move Bear from petplan. I'll first ask them for a reduced premium, though.

Oreo is with Bought By Many. I pay around £30 a month for her and it’s a fixed for life cover, so the premium won’t change even if I claim off it, and when she gets older. It should stay exactly the same! So far, I’ve not had any issue with them and I believe they pay out very quickly. I know quite a few people who use them.

I pay about £28 a month for Harley with Direct Line. She’s nearly 8 and we have had claims for pyometra (emergency spay), a stay overnight when she was really sick, physio and hydrotherapy, lots of bad cuts (paws and head) that needed glue/stitches, 3 biopsies, xrays and scans. It was about £14 when we first got her and am really happy with what we pay now.

I went with bought by many, without looking I can't for the life of me remember exactly what is covered, but it is the top whack one and went up by £4 this year. I do know that what sold it to me was £2000 towards emergency care should anything happen to me.

Bought by Many are by memory the top pet insurance provider according to Which. I have River on BBM. The petplan premiums for the others are eye-watering expensive now.

Thanks. I think I'll give BBM a call rather than on-line to see what they offer. I like the idea of Sophie's fixed for life cover but that doesn't seem available on-line. Lady was with Petplan and her final premiums were way up at £90 per month with no ED cover. I've got Poppy booked into the vet for a health check on Wednesday next week. I'm guessing it will be sensible to get her insured before that.

Homer's insurance with Direct Line Advanced policy is an eye watering £105 per month £1260 per year. Only ever claimed once for his dental treatment which they wouldn't pay even though we've being paying for Advanced to cover dental treatments. They wouldn't pay for the tooth removal of an incisor, they wouldn't pay for the root canal of the canine as root canal is 'cosmetic'. We questioned it and finally they paid out a very small portion for a bit of tissue that was sent to be tested in a lab.

Yes, get insured quickly as usually the first ten days are not covered, unless she is still covered with her previous insurance. I had a pup who broke his elbow at 14 weeks and I had had the sense to overlap it with his previous insurance phew!

Good point👍

Yes, definitely get her covered before your vet visit. We made a mistake of getting Ella's insurance swapped from the breeder six week cover after the first vet visit. Her vet notes said "appears a little itchy" and the insurance has disallowed any claims skin related for her entire life 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

That's harsh !!

Bought by many discount any issues that haven't reoccurred within the previous two years. So when I insured Cassie for the first time aged 4 the eye drops she had as a one off aged 6 months and the lump they found when she was spayed aged 22 months did not affect the premium.
I might look at changing! We’re with Argos - never claimed and pay nearly £50 a month.

We were with Argos for Lilly.
Stopped paying a couple of years ago, and in some ways regret this as went on to have her lupus issues. We are ok finding this ourselves but aware not everyone can.
Its between the devil and the deep blue sea as they say.

I've just had Homer's Insurance renewal through the door. Its gone up another £400 to a whopping total of £1674,49 thats £139.55 per month. I'll ring them when I'm feeling up for a big (polite) rant. I'm trying to get some comparisons at the moment but its a bit tricky as all the terms and conditions are in the fine print.
