Is It OK?

Still in Scotland so we thought we go to the beach today as it's a beautiful sunny frosty 3 degrees today. Is that too cold to let Hattie & Charlie go for a swim? Sorry for the question but it's not something we ever get to do. Thank you xx

If they want to go in, I'd let them. They'll know if it's too cold. Just make sure they're dried and warm in the car if you have a longish trip back home.
If either of them has had limber tail that you know was brought on by cold water, I would probably be a bit more cautious. Willow sometimes gets linger tail, but it seems more related to frantic wagging than cold swimming!

I will take their R&T drying coats and towels. Never had the chance to have limber tail before also have never lived near water before. The only worry is Hattie is still coughing. I am taking her back to the vet when we get back Sunday. Should I let her swim if she wants to? Thanks Fiona xx

Hmm, is she likely to leap in and actually swim? I'd probably be happy with a paddle, but with her not being 100%, probably not want her to swim, or ingest any sea water.

Unlikely to leap in but you never know! I agree just a paddle this time. xx

Zaba leapt in to the reservoir this morning - no thought of the cold! (It’s minus 1 here)

Spencer followed him but more carefully. Tatze is a princess who never, ever gets her bikini wet, whatever the temperature!

Snowie is envious of your cold temps. It was 32C yesterday. He races into the sea—water temps are usually around 16C. Makes my feet scream just from brief paddling. What is the Scottish sea temp?

Where we are the average temp is around 8c - 48f for January so won't be taking a dip today! xx

Lilly goes in the water at the beach all year round. We just watch out if there are wild waves. Or there is a seal around.
Only had limber tail once and that wasn't swimming related.

We had a great time at the beach even though it was really cold. Charlie whined a bit and was hesitant to approach Kelp which was funny! we don't get to beaches often but will when we move. He went straight into the sea to retrieve a ball, Hattie wasn't bothered until she spotted a ball Charlie missed and retrieved it. They had such fun running the length of the beach which understandably wasn't busy. Charlie did meet two King Charles Spaniels, he did so well and even tried to play albeit a little over the top for these two nervous dogs. Their owner called them so off they went joined by Charlie who verbally recalled to me beautifully. Not such a great meet with a big Rough Collie but even Hattie gave him a wide berth, she sensed something about him which is very unlike her but I trust her instincts. We had Charlie on lead, he barked and lunged once but we got by as the owner put her dog on lead.

They are both shattered and fast asleep

That sounds like fun for all. Sure you will enjoy it more once you have moved permanently. Are they now lying in the sun or infront of the fire to warm up?

No fire here but there is underfloor heating so they dry out quicker! x
