Is this really how much a labrador puppy costs?

There was an item on BBC Radio 4 yesterday (You and Yours) about the current absurd puppy-demand and consequent high prices. Apparently the law that a puppy must be seen interacting with its mother at the place of its birth has been allowed to not apply during lockdown so that breeders can deliver puppies to new owners. The programme said that this has led to reckless breeding (and possibly even import of farmed puppies from Ireland or Europe). The person being interviewed (sorry can't remember his name) urged people not to buy a puppy now and said he thought there would be lots in rescue centres later in the year.
