Jazz was spayed this morning. We brought her home about 20 minutes ago and she’s now dozing in her basket. We're keeping her in the living room so life will feel as normal as possible. All her exciting toys have been hidden but we've left some of her chews around. For at least the next two nights one of us will stay downstairs with her.
Its the fourth time we've been through this and it never gets any easier.

Flicka had to wear a shirt! Non of my other bitches (5 in all) had to wear one or a cone. Poor little Jazz looks spaced out, tomorrow is a new day, having keyhole shortens the recovery time.
Weve got her a puppy onesie in case she starts licking her stitches. The vet nurse thinks her neck is too long for an inflatable collar.
The vet intends to call on Wed to check on progess. The aim is for gentle walks from next week with stitches out in 10-14 days.

it never gets any easier.
I felt so awful when Cass was spayed - taking a perfectly happy healthy dog to the vets and coming home with a miserable wreck. She was the fifth one for me -- none of the others came home with a cone or a vest and just got on with life!
But it is best for them really, and for Cass, no more more horrid phantom pregnancies.

Hope Jazz is doing ok this morning.

Jazz had a reasonable night. She slept fairly well and didnt move around much. We've been hand feeding her bits of chicken when she‘s awake. Its a fairly bland food in case she feel sick after the GA. Just now she had a small portion of her normal food, but we added some water as she’s not had a drink since she came home.

Our first dog had a phantom pregnancy after she was spayed. She also developed a dislike of visiting the vets refused to go into the vet’s room.
The waiting room had a church pew along one side. Gypsy would crawl under the pew and refuse to come out. She ignored all inducements, pleas and even treats but would lie between the pew and the wall. The only way to get her out was to get under the bench so we could slip an arm behind her and lever her out. We then had to carry a large floppy dog down the corridor and deposit her on the vets table.
We can laugh about it now but it was so embarrassing.

Its been 48 hours. Jazz’s stitches look OK with no swelling or redness. The pain killers are helping her but she’s clearly a bit uncomfortable. We had a call from the vet and were able to say that things were going well.
Jazz is restless so keeping her occupied with low intensity activities has become a full time job. What she really wants is a good game of fetch and a zoomie!

She had a good night. We carried her upstairs and let her sleep between us on the bed. We surrounded it with puppy fence so she couldn‘t fall/jump off the bed. She slept really well for the first time since the op.
This morning she’s her normal self - following us around looking for bits of toast. If she’s like this tomorrow we might take her for a five minute sniffy walk in the park.

Today Jazz had her last pain killer. She’s very restless so this morning we took her for a short walk across the lawn at the Bridges Centre to their cafe. Five minutes of sniffy walk and a stop for a quiet coffee seems to have worked; She’s now dozing quietly on the sofa between us. We might try another short walk after tea as the mental stimulation seems to settle her.
