Kindle fire problems

Last night in the middle of reading a good book on the kindle , it suddenly went black with a big icon of a battery on the screen, not the tiny one you get at the top to check battery status but a large icon in the middle of the black screen . I have tried holding down the power button for 40 seconds , but that doesnt work ! Any kindle experts help please ? Maybe it needs new batteries ? I am bereft :headbang::headbang:

It usually gives a message on screen whilst reading , saying that the battery is low but not this time, just this black screen with a large battery icon . I do charge it regularly , but have just put it on charge now will leave for a few hours , to see if it resolves xxx

Now wondering if, when I have been charging it , it actually charged as the red light seemed to go off very quickly ! So maybe it hasnt charged and now it is dead , I will try leaving it on charge for a few hours , I guess it could also be the charger x

If you had left the wifi on, the battery might have run down a lot quicker than usual.... but I agree they normally give plenty of warning the battery is low

I have mistakenly let the battery run right down on mine in the past and it then needs quite a long charge to revive, probably more than a few hours. Also as mine got older it needed charging more frequently, so that I've given up on it now and use my ipad with a Kindle app or my very old original Kindle which is still going strong.

If you're still stuck after a long charge Kate, the Kindle helpline people really are very helpful and didn't make me feel at all like a dinosaur the twice I've rung them. The most helpful helpline I've ever used.

I have found that Kindles, as well as other electronics, need to be completely shut down every now and then or they will shut themselves down at random times. They need to be fully charged as well, not just a bit of charge or it ruins the battery life.
