Lambies for Alan...

I do know, and he didn't. It can be very difficult to get it for off-grid properties.
I have been thinking about this all afternoon. I cannot comprehend what he must be feeling about losing his home and his dogs. If there's a just giving page or similar set up, please can you let us know? I understand he will be one of many people affected but if a financial contribution could help in just a small way I would be happy to be part of that.

Thank you Natalie, I have suggested this to him (as have a few others) and he is overwhelmed and emotional at the thought that there may be strangers out there who would give him a few euros to help him rebuild.

There is one other that I know has lost a lot - a sheep farm who lost almost all of their sheep and horses (there is an awful picture full of dead sheep, and one live one, standing looking bewildered in the centre) but amazingly most of the houses which have been caught up in this appear to have been relatively unscathed.

I also know of one dog and two cats from the same family who have been returned to their owner, so there are glimmers of light in the sadness.

It feels worse for the animals than the humans... Animals don't understand, panic, don't know the safest routes out, are so helpless. Fire makes us all so vulnerable.

Yes please let us know @snowbunny

your story of a friend has really hit home.
Yes, I have friends in Victoria who were sadly caught in the Black Friday bushfires. They managed to save their house and their dog, but lost all their goats. Many people lost everything and several lost their lives too. It was terrifying. The Australian Red Cross were brilliant and finally managed to track them down for me when I couldn’t contact them, as I knew the fire had gone right through their valley. Absolutely devastating.

This is so sad, especially for his dogs, that must break his heart. I am sure we are all sending our thoughts and love which might help him a little bit but poor man must be absolutely in pieces.

I clicked on the video and all it said is that it has blocked my computer, hope it hasn't. If I don't appear again, you will know it has!

It’s amazing how dogs and cats are able to survive these kinds of things. We’ve had some heartwarming stories of pets surviving some of the fires here, so you never know. If they were outside they could have got away. If inside, unfortunately the chances are slim because of smoke inhalation.
