Lambies for Joy please.

Stitches out, vet nurse very pleased with how well Joy's healing, now allowed off lead, but no 'racing around like a lunatic ' (Joy says 'Me? Race around like a lunatic? I hardly think so!') and no swimming until her fur has grown back. So we had pleasant amble around a local nature reserve, where we happened to meet Freddy, a gentle Golden Cocker, who Joy's known for a few years and likes very much. I threw the ball a little way several times and Joy did some fairly sedate retrieves, accompanied by much wagging. By the time we got home we had been out for two hours, including the stop off at the vet, so twice the length of time we've been allowed recently and she seems quite happy with this and is now snoozing in the garden, so all is fine.:sun:

Blimey, I wasn’t told that. Is that because of the wound? Red had masses of her belly fur shaved off and part of her side for her ultrasound in April when she was so ill. She went sea swimming almost daily in the Outer Hebrides in May and sea swimming in Norfolk in June but of course there was no wound. The fur is only just starting to grow back where it doesn’t look so obvious.

Pleased Joy is on the mend and getting more exercise

Not exactly sure why we have to wait for the fur to grow back, but it's started already, so with luck she'll be allowed to swim again fairly soon.🤞

Thinking about your question again @Atemas, it must be because of the wound. Probably the fur regrowth is a sign of healing, and perhaps the fur is an extra layer against possible infection? Anyway, I don't think you can have done anything wrong in letting Red swim before her fur had grown back.

After everything that happened to Joy last year I thought we were perhaps due for some time off, but no! We've been back at the vet's yet again! I suppose its inevitable with ageing . Joy didn't want to eat today, or to go for a walk, or even to sit with me, just kept herself very much to herself and was reluctant to leave her bed, all most out of character. I rang our local vet, where she's well known and they felt that it would be best to take her to the hospital in Birchencliffe, several miles away, where they have more diagnosic equipment. Fortunately my neighbour was able to drive us there. Anyway, the vet, Tom is a Labrador owner himself, so totally understood the worry about not eating and gave her a thorough examination. He doesn't think it's an intestinal blockage ( my main worry) but has taken bloods to check for this. He noticed that she has cataracts. The vet we saw a year ago who diagnosed the progressive retinol atrophy mentioned these, but said there was little point in having them removed as due to the atrophy she wouldn't be able to see anyway, but this vet said that she's now showing signs of Glaucoma, which combined with cataracts can be very painful. He scanned her for this and will ring me with the results tomorrow . He also gave her a shot of a fast acting painkiller, which has worked wonders, she's eaten her tea, enjoyed her evening Kong and is settled by the Fireinametalbox with me as usual, so it seems like this is what has been the problem and with luck cateract removal should help.
Anyway, we're settled and happy now, and will see what tomorrow brings. A few Lambies wouldn't go amiss though!
