Last Walk

One of my local neighbours lovely black lab died this morning on her walk. She was 11/12 and had heart problems but loved her walks and had two short gentle outings each day. I was out this morning with Amber when I came across my neighbour on a nearby wooded footpath close to where we live. He was understandably distraught standing there with poor Molly lying at the side of the path in the leaves she had been sniffing when her heart just gave up. He had called his wife and I waited until she arrived in her car so they could take the dog home.

I went on my way but was upset. The weather was actually quite nice this morning with a blue sky and whilst I was walking along with Amber was thinking given her age and heart problems how lovely it was that Molly passed away on one of her walks that she enjoyed so much.

Oh how sad @Amber - I’m sorry for you and Molly and her people. I’m glad you could be there so he wasn’t alone. If we could choose a way for our friends to go, it’d be suddenly at a ripe old age doing something they loved, and it sounds like that was the way for Molly. She’ll be scampering through the leaves with friends now x

Oh what a shock for the poor man. And how kind of you to wait with him. I think watching a dog suffer must be the worst. So, for a dog to pass away suddenly doing what she loved with her best friend walking with her is really the best way. Even though it is heart shattering to lose a dog. I would’ve been upset, too, in your shoes.

Aw that’s so sad. But it’s not a bad way to go, all in all. I hope that will give them some comfort once they’ve passed the worst of the shock/grief.

She went doing something she loved. So very good of you to wait with her owner.
Of course it was devastating for you too but you need to know how comforting you must have been. You did a very good thing and should recognise that. Are you able to contact them and see how they are doing?

So sad for her owners, but how beautiful for Molly to go so suddenly doing what she like to do. RIP Molly

Run free over the rainbow bridge Molly :'(. That was nice of you to stay with him until his wife come. Hopefully they will know that she was happy doing what she loved and wasn’t in pain x

Oh how lovely for Molly to end her life in that way, in a loved and familiar place with a loved and familiar person. Sad for your neighbours, good of you to stay with him.

It happened to my Dad -- the opposite way round, he was walking his dog when he died.
