The vet said there is nothing to be done, I suggester Paracetamol but she said no! Rourke seems ok in himself, he still runs around despite being so very lame, but when we get home he goes and lies somewhere and then is very stiff when he gets up. It is his right fore leg which is such the problem now, vet thinks it is due to the arthritis in left hind leg and the balance in his body is causing the problem in fore leg.Oh Jelinga I am so sorry for you.
What has the vet told you? Can Rourke take paracetamol or is it no painkillers at all? It must be very upsetting for both of you. How is Rourke in himself?![]()
I tried physio for him some time ago, just as Covid struck, this was for left hind, didn't help. The vet suggested hydrotherapy but when he swims it makes his back leg arthritis worse! I have no idea why she said no paracetamol, she just looked shocked when I mentioned it! I do have some. I just hope it is like his back leg, comes and goes, flares up, flares down, but it is depressing. He had a walk this afternoon and was perfectly happy despite being lame@Jelinga, is there any possibility that physio or chiropractic would help him? Or hydrotherapy?
What's the rationale for no paracetamol?
Maybe I will try again, that is encouraging, thanks Swampy.I did hydrotherapy with Doug. Because she of his SLO his gait was damaged. We used hydrotherapy to balance him out and get things working in a better way. H it really helped.
No it's very different very structured and careful.Sounds like this is far worse for you than him @Jelinga
A chiropractor might be able to help him.
With hydrotherapy though it wouldn't be like him just swimming by himself would it ?
Rourke is on CBD oi and YouMove Plus and salmon oil.I may give him half a tab of Paracetamol then xLilly is on Paracetamol. 1/2 tablet twice a day, just a low dose, an extra 1/2 if she has done a lot (25kg ish)
Also Golden Paste (turmeric black pepper and coconut oil)
And YouMove Plus.
Many people also sweat by CBD oil, but we haven't needed to go there.
I would be speaking to my vet again about pain relief.
Maybe treadmill hydrotherapy rather than swimming would be worth trying if you can find this near you. Our collie-cross had this after her cruciate op. The speed of the treadmill and the depth of water can be regulated to suit the dog, so this may be more suitable for Rourke and less strain on his hind legs. The vet suggested hydrotherapy but when he swims it makes his back leg arthritis worse!
Absolutely! Olive oil is excellent.I guess I could use Olive oil
I would be referred to an orthopaedic vet in Worcester, we were referred there some years back when Rourke had tendonitis of the shoulders, he opened up Rourke but didn't do anything. Rourke's paw is very splayed, I don't think that anything can be done. Will see what the x-ray reveals on Friday.I would seriously consider a second opinion with a different vet.
I am so sorry Rourke is struggling with limping. This is tough on you too.![]()
