Listening when your dog says No

This is interesting, thank you. It goes along with the shift I'm trying to make in my own mind towards the idea of training Carbon to make the right choices vs. 'because I said so'. It's part of me still grappling with what is positive training really and how I still have a knee jerk reaction of doing things with brute force (even if the 'force' is positive). Not sure if that makes sense (I'm rambling as usual) but the article supported what I'm trying to apply in training, so thank you. :)

Yes, excellent article, very interesting reading. I particularly liked 'When the whispers are listened to there is no need to shout.'
Yes, although I’m mildly irritated that he didn’t attribute that excellent quote; I first heard it said by Kamal Fernandez on a podcast; I hadn’t heard it before that, but it does date back to at least that.

The article is great, but it’s such a huge topic I think many people will be left with the feeling of “HOW?!” and, especially when it comes to our generally compliant dogs, “why?”. I love hearing about this sort of husbandry used with wild animals in zoo environments, where the alternative is using tranquillisers; and they have clicked trained rhinos, lions, jackals and such to have blood draws, physical exams and all sorts else through a fence with no coercion at all. If they can do that for an Orca, we should be able to do it for a dog 😊

@snowbunny youve probably heard Deb Jones’ Fenzi Dog Sports Podcast on this - she’s really interesting on the use of cooperative care with other species. I’ve joined her FB group and there’s some lovely posts from zoos using this sort of training to take blood, administer injections and do the basic husbandry activities with all sorts of species.
