Loo roll stock pile

They do have long dates but this way you avoid any issues with weavils. Not that we have had a problem in the past
We've had pantry moths (weavils) once. It was awful as we basically threw anything opened in the pantry away, cleared out the whole pantry, sprayed it all, closed the doors, then washed it out with soapy water the next day. Then we wiped it down and left it empty for a week before starting again.

My stockpile would be: paracetamol, ibuprofen, migraine cocktail, olive oil, coffee, tins of tomatoes, and bags of dried grains and pulses.

My husband was asking yesterday what we should buy more of, and then started mentioning stuff we never eat. Like pasta, frozen veg, tinned veg. I said absolutely no! Why eat stuff we don’t normally eat? Most of what we eat is fresh fruit and veg. I made a massive lentil curry on Saturday night, thought it would last in the freezer. Mmmm just had some for breakfast! Won’t be lasting long! But I don’t mind cooking from scratch and freezing; just don’t fancy eating pre-frozen stuff.

Snowie eats raw meat and raw meaty bones. Delivery is once a month. And he eats our food, too—loves steamed broccoli! He should be fine. Anyway, we can all lose a kilo or two. Or three.

The Independent is running a piece on why people stock-pile toilet paper by Dr Steven Taylor. He claims that there is a close link between fear of being infected and disgust (as a safety mechanism - if you are disgusted you won't touch something) and that toilet paper is a conditioned symbol of safety.

How can we be told not to stockpile and then be told that we could soon be isolated for 12 weeks. (over 70s)
Any sane person is going to stock up on 12 weeks worth of groceries, inc. toilet roll of course, and as soon as possible because we don't know when the 12 weeks will start. Which is stockpiling.

Scottish ditty

Tae a virus

Twa months ago, we didna ken,
yer name or ocht aboot ye
But lots of things have changed since then,
I really must salute ye

Yer spreading rate is quite intense,
yer feeding like a gannet
Disruption caused, is so immense,
ye’ve shaken oor wee planet.

Corona used tae be a beer,
they garnished it wae limes
But noo it’s filled us awe wae fear
These days, are scary times.

Nae shakin hawns, or peckin lips,
it’s whit they awe advise
But scrub them weel, richt tae the tips,
that’s how we’ll awe survive

Just stay inside , the hoose, ye bide
Nae sneakin oot for strolls
Just check the lavvy every hoor
And stock-take, your, loo rolls

Our holidays have been pit aff
Noo that’s the Jet2 patter
Pit oan yer thermals, have a laugh
And paddle ‘ doon the waater ‘

Canary isles, no for a while
Nae need for suntan cream
And awe because o this wee bug
We ken tae be..19

The boredom surely will set in,
But have a read, or doodle
Or plan yer menu for the month
Wi 95 pot noodles.

When these run oot, just look aboot
A change, it would be nice
We’ve beans and pasta By the ton
and twenty stane o rice.

So dinny think yell wipe us oot
Aye true, a few have died
Bubonic, bird flu, and Tb
They came, they left, they tried

Ye might be gallus noo ma freen
As ye jump fae cup tae cup
But when we get oor vaccine made
Yer number will be up.

Well France is now going mad for Loo rolls and everything else. Not much now in the shops. Its just like they have now found out, that there is a thing called coronavirus which they may get. Lines have been put down on the floor of the supermarket, at the pay outs so you can not stand within a metre of other people or a man comes to you and tells you off. The staff all wear gloves. This has all happen since Friday.

Dropped Maisy off at day care this morning, went to pop in to Lidl for my usual Tuesday treat of cheesy rolls plus some shopping. The car park was full and people were leaving the store with trollies piled high - at 9am! Usually it would be empty at that time.
I actually left without going in, couldn't face it.

A large proportion of my Asda online order being delivered today is not available, so I popped into the M&S food store near where I was picking up my paint. No busier than a usual Tuesday, managed to get the cauliflower I wanted, watercress, lemons, risotto rice and rich tea biscuits for OH. A man in there told me he had come from Sainsbury's where he couldn’t get any fresh veg, loads in M&S.
But apparently there is now a shortage of sugar in our area and there wasn’t any in M&S either. The man in the paint shop was most upset as they had gone out to get milk and sugar for their tea and couldn’t find sugar anywhere.

I think the Iceland thing is national.
Good on them.

I was disappointed to be in a queue of about 6 people in our tiny Spar. But heartened to see loo roll, if not hand soap in the Premier Store across the street.

There are a lot of people sharing independent food outlets - butchers, bakers, fish "purveyors". There are many posts about home deliveries for those self isolating. There is a nice community Fife group up here which I'm sure will be in other areas, offering help and sharing resources.
