I am so sorry to hear about Maxx being so poorly. I really do hope the vets manage to get him better. Its so much harder when he doesnt want to take the tablets, there is a way of cruching tablets with a little bit of water in a syringe which you can then squirt down their throat. Personally I'd ask for extra antibiotics then sort out gut bacteria with probiotics. If he has had pnumonia he will need a strong course of anitibiotics. Is he regurgitating or vomiting? Such a big worry as you have a big trip away planned. Sending lots and lots of love.

Steve is actually very good at getting the pills down his throat then holding his mouth shut so he doesn't spit them out. Maxx doesn't seem too worried about it

At his worst he vomited twice but was drooling like anything and constantly walking up to his water bown and putting the tip of his nose in it but couldn't drink. Then the hemorrhaging diarrhea started which is when we pushed our way into the vets early. He looked on deaths door on the floor of the surgery :cry:

He has strong anti-biotics now and they are clearly doing the trick. We will take him back when they are finished and ask for more if he is not 100%

This morning he is having a frozen chicken kong which is the first time he has had the strength to attack one. Tail wags all round so things are really looking up

So pleased to hear that Maxx is feeling better.

When Snowie was about 1.5/2 years old, he had HGE—hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. Basically, bloody diarrhea. The vet called it Garbage Eating Disease, apparently common in Labs. It was a long time ago so I forget the details and how we treated it, but I do remember it took 3 months to completely go away. He’d get better, then get sick again. After a couple of courses of antibiotics with no complete recovery, we went to a holistic vet who recommended 1/2 cup of kefir every day. I can’t say for sure whether this did the trick or whether it was just time to get better, but he finally recovered and never got HGE again. I don’t want to leave you feeling in despair, but rather to say, based on our experience, these things can take time to heal. xxx

I really hope the anitbiotics do their trick this time. I do understand vets being cautious as they can be over prescribed but when you really need them you really do need them. When Homer was regurgitating a lot he eventually got pnumonia, it was difficult to get a full dose into him and to stay down. I gave Homer goats milk to help him gain a bit more weight when he was ill. I hope Maxx is feeling a lot better. Sending lots of love.

Oh what a rollercoaster as I’m catching up! Maxx, you are giving your poor ML a hard time, so keep on eating your bits of chicken and letting Dad stick those pills down your throat!

Very happy to read the last updates that he’s doing better back on the antibiotics. Sending all the Lambies that he keeps going in the right direction. :thelambiesarecoming: :thelambiesarecoming:

Hi @M.F. - thanks, we have bought some Kefir yoghurt and will give him half a cup daily. Fingers crossed!

I make my own kefir for Snowie. I read that making your own produces far more bacteria than what comes from store bought. But I use the store bought as a starter. I just add a bit of kefir to a litre of full cream milk and leave it in the pantry cupboard. “Burp” the bottle every day to let off the gas. In a few days you have lovely lumpy kefir.
