I do like Bertie, but doesn't it just sound like a cuddly puppy name, not a big dog name? And Bert is an old dog name. And reminds me of Adrian Mole.

It's astonishing how so many names have a connection.
I came across Silas Marner which I liked, and then suddenly realised
