Merlin again

Poor Merls... Woke up this morning obviously in a lot of pain, couldn't walk properly and was holding his back crooked. We are always worried if anything like this happens that it might be his hips, but I suspected a bladder infection as he's also been dripping urine a bit over the weekend while I was away visiting my daughter and grandchild in Finland. Sure enough, it seems he has either a stomach or bladder infection. Now we have to get a urine sample, which should be fun. He has painkillers, and if the infection suspicion is confirmed, then he will have antibiotics.

Fingers crossed that he recovers quickly...

Oh no, poor boy...is he prone to uti's ?
Not really, but he has had several infections of various sorts over the past year; a nasty ear infection that took many weeks to clear up properly, a couple of fairly serious stomach upsets, and now this... He is a bit of a sensitive flower, tbh. I am actually considering taking him off raw food and moving him to a commercial diet, because I sometimes think that might work better for him.

I remembered about the UTI causing pain in the back from Bones having it once. I also remember our quite hilarious attempts at collecting wee, with Bones skulking around the garden and refusing to pee any time I got near him with the pee jar... He clearly thought I had become very weird and was acting in a most inappropriate manner... I also remember that I got a tip from The Other Place about quickly sliding a baking tray underneath rather than trying to use the urine sample jar, which really worked very well!

A ladle is a brilliant idea, and hopefully not too (?) weird for him - I was thinking a baking tray might have a lots of resonance and splash back! Poor Merlin, I hope he’s more comfortable very soon x

It was so sad this morning... He could barely get up, made it out to the garden with us and then slowly over to the woods for a poo, but he was clearly very uncomfortable. He ate his breakfast, but then just lay down in his bed and did not want to get up again. :( We got him to the vet's as soon as possible.

When I have to take a urine sample I use a ladl for soup….
We also use a ladle. The long handle is what makes it easy. Although our vet got a urine sample in 2 secs. She took Snowie on a leash in their back area where all the dogs wee, and within seconds he lifted his leg. She got the sample in a flash, in one of those small stainless steel tray things that vets and dentists have. It was just marvellous witnessing an expert wee catcher!

Ah, yes maybe that is what is meant, rather than a baking tray... :giggl:
