I've just joined a book club locally, the chosen novel for this month is "Klara and the Sun", by Kazuo Ishiguro , which I've just finished. I loved it, has anyone else read it?

If so, what did you think?
I haven't read that one but I have read several others of his and loved them all. It's come up as recommended for me on my Kindle, so it might well become my next holiday read.

@Selina27 I have Amazon Audible as I like to listen to audio books as well as read books, particularly kindle books because of text size flexibility 🤣
Audible subs give you one book a month of a paying category but also have a catalogue of free to listen to/included books.
Good to listen to when knitting/crocheting.

@Lisa I read that one about 5 years ago and enjoyed it very much.

@Selina27 I haven't read that one, but have read three others of his. I loved The Remains of the Day, liked Never Let Me Go and thought The Unconsoled was rubbish!
I absolutely loved The Remains of the Day too, also Never Let Me Go, which I found quite heartbreaking. They're the only other ones of his that I've read, but the new one is now downloaded and waiting for me to start it!😊

Yes @Jacqui-S we had that at my Book Club too.... 100% agree with your assessment x

I am currently revisiting the work of an author who lives locally to me Barbara Erskine - Official Site

Barbara Erskine.

She wrote Lady of Hay 40 odd years ago, which is quite iconic in this area.

I have recently read The Dream Weavers, which I enjoyed, and last week I went to listen to hear her "in conversation" at Hay Castle talking about her new novel "The Story Spinner". A very apt title as she herself is a very good story spinner.

Yesterday I finished our current Book Club choice, 'A Terrible Kindness ' by Jo Browning Wroe. I enjoyed it and found it quite difficult to put down. Interestingly it had a very good review by Bonnie Garmus, author of 'Lessons in Chemistry. ' Much as I enjoyed 'A Terrible Kindness ', if I had to choose between the two, I would go for 'Lessons in Chemistry '.
I'm also currently rather liking the Richard Osman Thursday Murder Club books, easy to read, but also quite clever and make me chuckle ( as I suppose would be expected from the host of 'House of Games')

If you enjoy podcasts Candy, I'd recommend 'The Rest is Entertainment' which is co-hosted by Richard Osman, alongside Marina Hyde who's a journalist. It covers a huge gamut of topics, and Richard is characteristically funny and fascinating. He also gives scoops on the new Thursay Murder Club film they've just started making - produced by Stephen Spielberg, they've got Helen Mirren as Elizabeth and Ben Kingsley as Ibrahim. It's going to be fun!
