My Labrador Friends Book Club - Fiction Choice

On holiday, I read Terry Waite’s autobiography, Taken on Trust.
To be honest, I didn’t enjoy it at all; I found the first third really hard going and the rest just poorly written. I didn’t find it engaging at all and skim-read large parts of it. However, I think I’m alone in my assessment; my sister (who recommended it) thought it was fabulous, and all the Amazon reviews are four- or five-star ratings.

I thought it was a shame, as the story itself lends itself to a book. I can’t begin to imagine what it was like for him, and am in awe that he managed to stay sane after so long in solitary confinement. And yet I feel the writing style really let it down. It felt more of a chore to read than a pleasure.

I borrowed The Lark by E. Nesbit from the library today. ('Lark' as in 'What jolly japes!') I loved her children's books when I was young but didn't know she'd also written novels for adults (11 apparently). I'm really enjoying it - if you imagine P.G. Wodehouse meets Enid Blyton, that gives its tone; light but fun.

I do.
Will need to check as I love the crime and murder and mystery stuff :giggl:
Cheers, I suppose a funny mystery I might like.... but gruesome stuff just isn't my bag. A bit of light chick lit would be ok.... 2 weeks with no wifi and a not so glorious weather forecast means lots of reading!!!
