We have just gone through a really tough time with out little one . She is strongly suspected of having Chiari Malformation , she has every single symptom , the only definitive diagnosis being an MRI . Unfortunately there is no Vet with an MRI in Cornwall and in any case , a formal diagnosis would not offer a cure as there is none, just management of a horrible condition . Our Vet is also convinced that Nelly has CM , she typifies the disease in every aspect . So far , we have managed this quite well with pain relief as CM is basically a condition where the skull is not big enough for the brain and so at times , pressure builds up causing pain . Nelly will cry out, which is heartbreaking to hear but we have coped with medications . This last weekend , it has got worse and so an emergency Vet had to be consulted , diazepam given as she went into a loop of mini seizure type episodes and total confusion . Yesterday she was much better but very tired , however she has been eating and even enjoyed a very short walk on lead . Tomorrow we have an appointment with Sue , our lovely Vet, to discuss options of further pain management , if this is possible . Nelly is very precious to us , a dear little soul who seems to enchant everyone she meets , her deafness never holding her back from enjoying life, so fingers tightly crossed that help will be at hand xxxx
