Nipple - to be removed :(

Will be thinking of you...hopefully a benign lumpy bit x
I’m hoping, too. The vet said it could be benign. But obviously she couldn’t make promises. She said looking at it with bare eyes, she couldn’t determine what it is. Needs to go for histopathology (not sure that’s the word she used). Will take 10 days to get back the result. :(

Excellent job on finding this and getting it seen to so quickly. Hopefully it will turn out to be nothing. Your vet sounds great, so I’m sure you’re both in very good hands.
I feel so bad that I didn’t notice it sooner. Every evening we have a ritual at bedtime where he gets a good rundown. Lies on his back and I use this time to check all his bits. Bedroom is dimly lit though. But I prod here and there and make sure all is in order! Got such a shock when I saw the enlarged nipple. How did I not notice it before?!

Homer has a nipple that often gets inflamed with a yeast like infection. I clean it with hibiscrub when it flares up and becomes red. After a few days is subsided but is always a bit mor pronounced than the others. The vet shoes me how to squeeze it gently to clean it out. When I first noticed it and took him to the vet she said it could be removed if cleaning it out wasn’t effective.
Thank you for sharing this. I hope it’s this. Most of his nipples are awful. Although this one is now much, much bigger. The vet gave me F10 shampoo on Friday, which is an anti-fungal, anti-yeast, etc for itchy skin. I’ve been using it on his tummy this weekend and it has made a big difference!! She said to wash him daily. I’ll wash all his nipples with it. They’re black and crusty. Poor boy. He’s suffered from being itchy his whole life. Tried so much.

Well done for getting it seen to so quickly; hopefully it’ll be nothing - hope gorgeous Snowy copes okay with his cone x
Me, too!! He’s never worn a cone!! At least he’s coping with no breakfast. The vet said to feed a snack at 10pm. Well, he got it at 9pm cos we went to bed early. And I explained to him that there would be no breakfast. My husband is going without breakfast, too, so as not to tempt Snowie (he always gets bits of his fruit). I don't eat so early. And can you believe it, Snowie came downstairs with me this morning and has gone to his after-breakfast sleeping spot and is snoring away!!

It might have happened really quickly. It might not have been there at all prior to the day you checked it. So definitely don't berate yourself about this. You did a great job to find it - you are very, very diligent to have a checking regime and to have caught this lump.

Snowie is back home. The vet receptionist called at 12 to say the op was successful and that he was just waking up, to come at 2pm to pick him up.

10 minutes later she called again. Come fetch him now!! He wants to come home. Barking the house down. He has a VERY loud bark. I guess they were shell shocked!

Nice small incision. Can barely see where the nipple was removed. Vet wasn’t available, but receptionist said they will only know what it is after it’s been analyzed.

No cone!! They review the dog when it wakes up. If it doesn’t try to lick the stitches, they recommend against a cone. What a relief!

He has pain meds to be taken daily. No swimming for 5 days. We’ve just covered our pond with the net—what an ordeal, so difficult to put it on!

He’s a bit whiny. Was like this after a previous anaesthetic. Breaks my heart. Hopefully not in pain.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I really appreciate it.
