Nisha and Talía (Negreta and Lulú).... a journey.

I wrote a post some time back which isn't there! I must think I am on Facebook and just click rather than click on 'post reply'. Could you take a photo of it and send to vet? Would Talia be more willing to go to the vet if Ginny went as well?
The lump is kinda hidden by her "mum tum" so you can't really see it from the outside. I don't think I'd be able to get a photo of it anyhow, she's very wary even of the GoPro camera I use for videoing, so I'm not sure I'd be able to get a camera or even phone underneath her to see the area.
I don't think Ginny being there would make any difference, if I'm honest. She's going to be terrified for herself, and I can't see Ginny being any help with that. Also, Ginny won't walk with anyone but me, and I'd obviously be with Talia, so I don't have enough hands - or brain capacity! - to cope with both dogs at once.

No sorry Fiona it just says Video unavailable
It’s fine on FB though. Ginny’s being so good. It’s lovely to see how much more confident Talia has become, even if there’s still more progress to be made. Your patience is definitely a huge help, Fiona.

Talia has been a bit weird about her food recently. I think that she maybe found her daily medication in the mince balls I put on top, and that has put her off. It doesn't take much for her trust to be shaken. So a few times, I've ended up hand feeding her her meals, which is kinda messy since it's largely wet. :wasntme:
Last night, she wasn't having it from her bowl on the mat, turned her nose up and wandered back into her kennel, and sat on her bed at the back, next to her den. I followed her in to put the bowl on the bed - normally at this point she would sneak into the den, but she just sat there, looking at me, so I sat on the floor and hand-fed her. Dinner had salmon oil on it. Delightful.

Once she'd finished, I stood up to go - again, she'd normally go into her den when I stand - and started to smooth out the blanket over her sofa. As I was doing this, she hopped on up and laid down. Unexpected.
I gently sat down next to her and we had a little chat, then I asked her if she would like an ear rub (put my hand out, see if she moves/turns away "no", or stays put "yes"). Apparently, the answer was yes. So I rubbed and scritched for a while, then stopped. She looked at me balefully, then pawed at me! HAHA! She's learned to ask for more! So I stayed with her, scratching her ears, for about twenty minutes, stopping every so often to see if she would ask again, which she did. Funny girl!

Leash work has had a bit of a set back, so I'm just working on relationship right now, and think we'll just have to go all-out with the drugs. I've got an appointment with the vet for Ginny tomorrow, so I'll have a chat about it then. But relationship-building seems to be going OK, if last night was anything to go by :)

Oh Talia, the absolute quiet joy of this! If this was everything she ever learned - that she can trust, and ask, and enjoy ear scritches - it would be enough. There will be so much more of course, but what a revolution. Brava, Fi x

What happened about Talia's lump @snowbunny?
It's still as it was. I was hoping to get her on the leash and out of the kennel before taking her to the vet, but that's clearly not going to happen. So I'll discuss tomorrow with the vet about what meds we can use to get her there with as little distress as possible - followed by a big wallop of ketamine afterwards to help her forget, I hope.

Do you think it is more or less helpful if you're involved in the whole drugging process? Part of me is wondering that if you're not present, she possibly won't associate you with the event?

There's no choice, I have to be. She won't go near J or anyone else, won't take food from anyone but me. If she retreated to her den and J sat next to it and gave her prime steak, she wouldn't touch it. And now won't take hidden pills in her bowl...

Talia is booked into the vets on Monday morning, and the vet has cleared her schedule so if surgery is necessary, it can be done immediately rather than putting her through the extra trauma of taking her back at a later date.

I’m so nervous, I know there is a real chance she won’t come back 😞

She’s going to get the best weekend I can give her. But any spare positive thought would be welcome 🙏
