Looks like he’s wearing Pierrot makeup!
I’m impressed with the vet’s surgical skills. Tiny incisions. Very neat.
She recommended against a cone. Said it’s too uncomfortable and too hot. Will cause him too much stress. So we just need to stop him rubbing his eye. I put some vet tape around his paw and dew claw in case he rubs his eye in the night. He’s already rubbed his face on the front door mat and made the wound bleed! I’m now super alert! Although I don’t think that was about his eye—he just likes to rub his muzzle there.
He’s been very vocal. Thankfully I now know he gets like this after a GA. It was very distressing the last time, I thought he was in pain. While I was giving him tummy rubs tonight he was moaning, as if in pain, but actually loving it. It’s as if his vocalisations are reading off the wrong script!
Hopefully the pain meds will keep him asleep all night. I feel rather exhausted myself! Since I picked him up and brought him home he’s been non-stop work. Took him for a walk around the neighbourhood. Like walking a dog with dementia I thought, rather scary of what’s to come when he’s older. At least he made his poos and wees and could settle at home. Slowly getting back to his normal self. Getting back his sense of humour. Unfortunately he’s also very itchy, the time of year. So he’s licking and scratching, which I try to stop as well, or at least rub in lotions and potions to ease his itching. He can’t take any cortisone right now cos it will interfere with the healing of the wound. Poor boy. Hopefully tomorrow he’ll be more cheerful.
