Our progress!

Having finally taken the plunge and joined AD Training Academy, I have been working really hard with Cassie lately out in the big wide world, to really good effect :) so far. I'm finding that she is definitely staying closer to me, and focusing on me more, and her off lead heel is getting better. I really want to win the battle of the poo eating, and while I know I probably won't win the war, but with the "focus fun" games it certainly helps with her staying nearer to me of her own accord. I've also put more effort into "leave it" which when on lead or close to me is being very effective. The apples, which will be strewn about liberally for the next 6 months, are another issue and I think the muzzle is the way forward there, we are up to having it clipped on in the house for a minute. And this is all combined with the relaxation protocol posted by @Leanne, which is very helpful.
Yesterday, while in the woods, my neighbours were up there working with chainsaws etc, and I just kept throwing food ahead and each time she returned to me, she knew that they were there but didn't run over to them, this is a massive deal, the first time she has chosen to ignore people and return to me! She has really taken to the "catch" game with food, and absolutely loves to hunt down her kibble if thrown across the wooden floors,or anywhere else, I have discovered! I suppose for a dog that wants to hunt and chase, this should be no surprise, but I think it is the thing that is making the difference.
Another thing which has recently been added to the mix is the AB game, which she thinks is great fun, so far! So we are busy most of the time, no wonder she is now sleeping soundly on her the new throw I bought for her armchair:)

Aah what a fantastic post. You have been busy and it’s all paying off. This inspires me to do more when Red is fully fit again. I did join the Academy but I found the videos just too time consuming to watch so I stopped. Was a bit cross with myself for spending on something I didn’t use. I even bought the Black Box and never used it. Hey ho. Well done you and we’ll done Cassie ?.

Oh, and good for you! I have mixed feelings about AD - they are great at marketing and some of the stuff is a bit eye-rolling BUT they encourage people to approach training in a fun way, which is just brilliant! The philosophy of “there’s a game for that” is engaging and fun and helps people to succeed with their dogs without having to think too hard. They are very successful, I can understand why and applaud them for bringing R+ training to the general public who don’t want or need to spend a lot of time coming up with training plans.

Yes, I absolutely agree, but I got to the stage that I was well aware that I'd had a lot of "taster" stuff and was only half teaching things. And I thought well, £25 a month, I can easily spend that on training classes, so what's to lose? It really consolidates a lot of what I've learnt from other sources, both here and other places. And I really can see the difference in her focus on me, certainly in our usual places, as well as today in Aldi carpark.
And I was skeptical as to whether there is a game for poo eating, but I think that, the more she looks to me for"catch it" the less inclined she is to eat poo! We will see!
And yes, eye rolling for sure, I wonder sometimes, are they grown ups and what is Tom on. Not sure that I want any :)
