Pancreatitis in dogs

Friends of ours have just had their dog diagnosed with pancreatitis. As if this wasn’t bad enough, I get the distinct impression that the vet concerned doesn’t have much of a clue about it. The vet advised that the condition could be managed by dietary changes but … seemed pretty clueless about what foods should and should not be eaten.

So, does anybody have any experience of dealing with this condition? If so, do please share anything helpful, especially in relation to diet.

My friends dog had pancreatitis. He had the severe type which caused him a lot of pain. He had a very low fat diet - I think food had to be under 7% fat content. Unfortunately my friends dog was 13 and passed away within 6 months of diagnosis.

Best to ask for a second opinion. I haven't had a dog with pancreatitis but have known of dogs with it. A low fat diet is the treatment and perhaps phone dog food companies for advice on which foods they would recommend.
