Paw 🐾

Last night Red suddenly started to limp. She was holding one of her back legs up. I could feel something sharp but she wouldn’t let us near her paw. This morning she’s still limping and we’ve had a closer look. It looks like a very fine but deep splinter of some sort. I’ve soaked her paw in warm water and we’ve tried to get it out with tweezers but canā€˜t. She’s started to get distressed so we have let it be for the time being. Anyone else had this and what did you do? Obviously if we canā€˜t get it out, we will need to go to the vets.

Fourth vote for the vet - they’ll be able to manage it quickly with minimal discomfort; all other things being equal this is the most efficient route to relieving poor Red’s painful paw 🐾
Just seen your post - well done, glad they can see you soon x

Poor girl. Harley had a huge thorn stuck in her paw a few mo this ago. We tried to get it with no luck. It took the vet about 15 mins as it was so far in, but he got it out and Harley immediately gave him a lick (she doesn’t usually like 5his vet!)

It’s out - about a quarter of an inch and a thorn. I wasn’t allowed to stay with her but she was ok. She was so calm sitting in the waiting room (mind you I had little fishy treats in my pocket) despite 2 noisy dogs and two meowing cats and we did have a 15 minute wait and again at the end to pay. One woman was admiring her and saying what a beautiful colour she is.

When I got home, I thought I’d take her for a walk. I’ve washed her paw and all looks ok. I’ve been given anti inflammatories (which I suppose is routine) but may just see how she goes as you get all the warnings about sickness and diarrhoea

I had to go to the branch of the vets in a village 10 miles north of here. My car which is hardly used these days showed a low battery charge warning ⚠ . I was so relieved when it started again on leaving the vets. The fields are massively flooded.

I would be interested in a poultice recipe for future reference
