Poor Kipper was attacked

What an awful experience for you both, it sounds as if it could have been even worse if you hadn't wrestled with the boxer. I do hope Kipper continues to be comfortable. As others have said look after yourself too.

Thank you for considering the owner, it must have been very distressing for them as well. Rourke was attacked by an enormous dog, barrelled straight over and in for the kiil, the owner nearly had a heart attack and was so upset. I managed to intervene and got the dog off (surprising what you can do when adrenal flowing!) and said if there was any damage I would send them the vet bill. Dogs are not humans and we do have to understand how they behave sometimes which is not ideal, the owners are usually very distressed that this happened. Though of course their are the wretches who couldn't care less!

Just catching up on this, @HAH. What a horrible shock! I’m glad Kipper chose to walk the same route this morning, so doesn’t seem to associate it with anything bad. I hope the small puncture wounds heal well - and you don’t meet the boxer again.

I am so sorry to read this Harriet, what a truly horrible thing to happen and we all dread it. I hope dear Kipper is ok apart from some temporary stiffness and as the others said please take care of yourself too. I will never forget when our first lab Benson was attacked, Steve was in QLD and the owner immediately left me on the ground with a bleeding dog and took off. He just stood in the car park knowing I was going to take his licence plate but I had to get Benson to the vet so I had to go without getting his details. It was so traumatic, the worst feeling in the world because we love our dogs so much and will do anything for them. Please take care

You did the right thing by taking him out again and I think it’s a good sign that he was happy to take the same route. Do you know anybody with a friendly Boxer that you could meet with? I ask because Harv was attacked twice by Border Collies when he was young (the first time was pretty ferocious and I had to put my boot to the offending dog to stop it - and both times no owner in sight!) and he has a distinct distrust of most Border Collies now, even 10 years later. Just a thought …

It’s a good thought, and one I’ve mulled - I only know two boxers, and they’re both reactive. It’s not the most common breed round here, so I’ll keep an eye out for well adjusted looking fellows and see if we can set up a comfortable meeting.
