Poppy seizures - medicating with Pexion

Oh Karen, I am so sorry. When I saw the post, my heart sunk. Do you know if Poppy ate anything on the walk? I remember once when Snowie had a seizure, it was after eating human poo, which no doubt had remnants of drugs given who would poo in a public spot.

I hope this is a one off. It’s so awful now worrying if there will be another. I know it took me years not to worry about if Snowie would have another.

Thinking of you and hoping you can relax and enjoy Poppy’s company without having to worry. I know it’s very difficult. xxx
You know, I did wonder whether she might have eaten something... She's a terrible one for sloping off and quietly eating poo, and it is not inconceivable that she (sorry) ate some dog faeces...

She seems much better today, in fact you wouldn't know there had been anything wrong with her. Fingers crossed this continues!

Ah me... Poppy had a cluster of seizures last night. I woke up to hear a scrabbling noise - at first I thought one of the dogs was just digging around in their bed, but it went on a bit long for that so I went down to investigate, and found Poppy behind the armchair, trying to stand, falling over and scrabbling frantically. She had defecated too. I got hold of her and yelled to OH to get the diazepam, and eventually managed to get that into her. After a couple of minutes the spasms stopped but started up again a few minutes later. It's such a horrible thing while it is happening, and worst is that she is conscious and afraid, she tries to get to us for comfort.

There was not much sleep had last night after all that, so we are all tired this morning. Apart from being a bit sleepy Poppy seems pretty much fine, though she tripped over a log on a short walk this morning. I am taking Merlin out for his afternoon walk in a while, and I think I will leave her here with OH.

Feeling a bit down in the dumps, to be honest. I mean, I know this could be a lot worse, but since she didn't have any fits for two years it is sad that she has now had two clusters in six months.

I’m so sorry this happened again to dear Poppy. Have you ever had her thyroid tested? Apparently low thyroid in dogs can increase the susceptibility to seizures.

It is so disheartening. Sending much love to you both.

So sorry and worrying for you!! Glad you woke up to hear her! Do you think something has triggered it?
I don't know... I have been away for a couple of weeks, and it is fairly typical for her to have her seizures when all is quiet and well... It's almost as though she builds up to a seizure during a (for her) stressful time, and the actual seizure happens when she lets her guard down. On the other hand, maybe it's purely a physiological thing...

She had an absolute barrage of tests when the seizures first started, and nothing showed up. She also had a general blood test a few months ago that all seemed pretty normal... but I will ask again next time I am at the vets.
