Poppy seizures - medicating with Pexion

Having had an epileptic dog, I know how you must be feeling and I am so sorry. We never know why they suddenly have fits, Jake used to have them at 3pm or in the night. At least two fits a year is not too bad (but bad enough ). I hope the interval gets even longer. Thinking of you.

I'm sorry for you and Poppy - you sound stoical, but it has be really tough to watch and keep yourself calm to reassure Poppy.
Actually, while it's going on it is easy to stay calm, because we have to be strong and steady for Poppy. It's afterwards that Toby and I are a mess for a while. But I do appreciate that it could be much, much worse, and am grateful that she is absolutely fine 99% of the time.

Looking back, I can't help but think that had we bred from her as we had planned, that she might have passed those genes on to her puppies. It was lucky, in retrospect, that she had her first seizure just before she was due to be mated (though I was very sad at the time, of course). Life is full of twists and turns, isn't it?

Unfortunately Pops had another seizure on Sunday evening. That's just two and a half weeks after the last one. I realized that it was starting and managed to get some of the diazepam into her, which stopped it developing into a full-blown fit, but she was very distressed for about half an hour, shaking and trembling and panting, before she eventually fell asleep. I spoke to the vet yesterday, and we are going to keep an eye on it, as if she has any more fits in the next couple of weeks she will need to be put on medication.

Has anyone heard of or used Pexion? It's new, and my vet says it's very good for dogs, with lower side effects. For now though, fingers crossed that there are no more seizures for a few months.
