Poppy seizures - medicating with Pexion

Feeling very sad this evening - Poppy had a seizure this afternoon, the first one in getting on for two years. There was no warning, no triggers that I can identify, she just suddenly looked ill, I let her out into the garden as I thought she was going to be sick, and the next thing I know OH is shouting for me that she is having a fit. Poor thing, in the mud and snow, with OH holding her to stop her bashing herself on the terrace steps. It was a big one too, eight minutes before I managed to get the diazepam into her and things calmed down a bit. Poor little thing, she was so frightened. Thank goodness we were there, thank goodness it was at home and that I had the medication to hand.

She seems ok now, bit sleepy from the diazepam but otherwise back to normal. Merlin was such a good boy too - concerned, but not intrusive.

I'm so upset. I thought it was all behind us, and that as long as we avoided tick and flea medication she'd be all right. I have no idea what brought this on. She's not on medication, we'd just been on a lovely snowy walk and she'd had her normal supper, and then wham, she's having a major fit. My lovely girl, I'm worried about her.

Oh no, I had thought this was all in the past too 😢 How terribly distressing for her and all of you.

Are the meds something you can carry with you?

It might be years before she has another. I hope so.
I hope so too, Rachael. And yes, we can carry the diazepam suppositories with us. We havent for about a year because I guess we felt safe, but we'll start again now.

Poor Poppy. I hope it’s just a one-off, but it’s difficult for you to be sure when you don’t know what triggered it. :thelambiesarecoming:

Poor Poppy and poor you, it must be so distressing. I really hope this is just an occasional one off type thing and doesn't start happening more frequently.

Not good news, and terrlbly distressing. Am I remembering right that Poppy isn't on any epilepsy meds. Another question, random I know, but are you sure this is related to her history of seizures? Could the fit be related to something else?

That's right Kate, she's not on epilepsy meds. And I don't know whether this is related to her seizure history, or something else, I just can't think what it could be.
