Primrose Puppy Log

Primrose is now 20 weeks. She had her rabies shot today and apparently knocked over a vet tech to give kisses 😬

She is very OTT with jumping and biting hasn’t let up a ton. She is teething still so I’m hoping that those last teeth coming out and working on calm behaviors will help over time. I rarely let her say hello to people or other dogs because no one respects ā€œonly give attention when 4 paws are on the groundā€ making her even more nuts! She’s still ruining things in record time (today was a pillow and the car hammock - less than 3 minutes). She reached the peanut butter on the counter this week so RIP training no counter surfing. She’s a chunky demon but very entertaining (we tried to count how many time we say ā€œPRIMROSEā€ in a day and it’s too many šŸ˜†)

I have a pretty grown up collar for her, but she’s filthy 98% of the time so not sure when she can wear it 🤣

How are things with Quinn? They look so cute cuddled up together :inlove:
They are very cute together - Quinn plays with her a lot and Prim is obsessed with her and now does a lot of similar behaviors, esp when playing. But I think the whole thing is a bit stressful for her. She’s already a sensitive dog and she can’t settle or sleep if Prim barks (she tries to get away from her). For example, in the car Prim was barking because she had to pee and Quinn was trying to jump into the front seat to get away. she will drop anything and give it to her, and gets up if Prim wants her spot. I feel a bit bad for her. She is also ultra sensitive to us managing Prim (esp me) - using a firm ā€œoffā€ or ā€œon your matā€ freaks her right out. She was sooo stressed over the weekend from fireworks and she never had been in the past. I’m considering anxiety meds for her again if it continues.

Primrose is 5 months old! We had really great training sessions last night and this morning - working on walking on leash alone and with Quinn and counter surfing. She’s been sleeping on the main floor where it’s much cooler (she runs hot) and OH is not disturbing her when he gets up for work as much - more sleep for all! I’ve learned that when she’s scared, she gets wiggly and tail waggy trying to get close to us - easy to mistake for happiness/excitement. She finally learned to do stairs two days ago and she was very proud of herself. Letting her go down here and there but still carrying her until I can’t lift her anymore.

I have some pamphlets to read from the vet on some more natural meds (is that even a thing?!) to help anxiety that she would like to try first. We had started down this path right before the pandemic with separation anxiety, which of course was a non issue ever since, as we’ve been home. I took a course on how work on it as well, but this is different. In the meantime We’ve been creating more space between the two and trying to prevent Primrose from behaviors rather than using ā€œoffā€ or ā€œdropā€ after the fact by keeping her out of the kitchen, not engaging if she gets really bitey etc. Poor Quinn can’t differentiate and will go to her bed or sit in a totally different room thinking we are talking to her. Primrose of course could care less šŸ˜† I do think overall Quinn enjoys having her - they play a lot and Quinn engages her just as often. They lay together and nicely share toys/puzzle toys and food and can have kongs/chews beside each other and swap back and forth. Neither likes to leave the other behind on a car ride or walk. As Primrose learns and chills out I think Quinn won’t be as bothered.

Prim is 50lbs!!! Now that we are re-opening a bit she’s back to socialization - she went nuts at the pet store now that she can get her mouth on toys and loose treats :giggl: and she did really well at a patio dinner (ok, fine, she licked a plate of pickles and slurped some salsa). But given how exuberant she is, not bad! She’s really good in the car now - we didn’t think she would be ok in our jeep with the roof off until next year, but she’s great! so she gets buckled in beside Quinn and they love watching out the back.

Girls now have matching waterproof collars! And Prim got a matching lab tag (Quinn has the black on another collar).
