Quick poll...

Have you ever felt a negative emotional response (however brief) to a "like" on Facebook.

For those of you on Facebook, have you ever felt a negative emotional response to someone "liking" your post, rather than choosing a stronger reaction, "love" or "wow"?

Example 1:
You post up a picture of your dog doing something utterly adorable. Ten people "love" and one person "like"s this post.

Example 2:
You describe your child's big achievement, how they worked hard to attain it, and they got the result they deserved. Again, several people "love" and "wow" it, a couple "like" the post.

I'm thinking purely about situations where there are multiple reaction options, not situations like here on the forum where the only choice is to "like" or not.

No, never. I enjoy ‘likes’ simply because it shows people have read the post.

I’m on a forum with no ‘like’ button and sometimes wonder if I’m talking to thin air! :)
.

Hmmmm. I sometimes cynically think we live in a very superficial world, and it is very easy to 'like' something, rather than actually bothering to engage with it. In fact, I'm guilty of that myself.

But then I think facebook should only be for pictures of cute dogs and sweet children, not for political discussions, and for that the various buttons are useful in that regard...

I've really stopped using Instagram, as it seems to only consist of pictures of people showing off. I look at Twitter on occasions. I'd like to stop using facebook completely, but I do find it a good way to keep up with family and friends.

I LOVE the Facebook ‘memories’ feature, especially as I have a new pup every year, it’s so nice to have a daily reminder as to where we were up to this time last year/two years ago etc.

I’ve given up on instagram - I don’t really ‘get’ it. I’m the same as @MellowYellow regarding twitter.

When I like something I like it. When I think something is special I put on a marvelous, for you the wow or love....I don’t do games and copy paste things. I hate them. There is no sign for that though....
I don’t go to Facebook that often anymore. Just a quick look and I am gone. The quick look is for family and sometimes friends. I don’t share much and certainly not my grandchildren or children....

I don’t like twitter, they are all so negative.

I like Instagram, but it is the same as with Facebook....

The answer to your question @snowbunny is no.

My son in law has bravely stopped using fb and doesn’t miss it. I love to see family and friends photos and also people who do crafts I like but I am selective. I love the ‘power’ fb has such as helping find lost dogs or even like our local fb when someone found DH’s car keys and he got them back - phew was he lucky. Unfortunately like all good things, there are negative sides too

I answered the question before I read the whole post.
I sometimes cho6se my reaction according to trend.
I sometimes wonder why one person likes the other loves but it doesn't bother me. Although I sometimes look at who does what :$
What DOES annoy me is if someone I don't like likes something of mine.
I'm really irritated by this guy WITH THE SAME NAME AS MY OH who shares ALMOST EVERY BLOOMIN POST I PUT UP ON MY WORK FB PAGE! Why? Just why? He's just an individual who also happens to share stuff I'm not that delighted about from other pages. Urgh.

Anyway.....what was the question......?

I really don’t like or understand Fb, but I’m quite the fan of Twitter and like Instagram. Completely off topic, but that’s social medya for you! ;)

I don't take facebook seriously enough to be disappointed by any type of response. I do wish there were more emojis though, the choice is too limited. I only respond with 'love' myself if something has made me feel really good or is very special, everything else will get a like or whatever.
I would rather not be on it but it is a good way of keeping in touch with family and friends who live a long way off, mainly for me it is groups though like this one or for information in my area.

In both your examples I couldn't be offended by a 'like' instead of a 'love'. To me a 'like' is an acknowledgement "I agree , that's great'. If someone walked into a room and said to a group of people "my kid's just done such and such" some might just smile with others might say more, some might even whoop around the room.

I had a difficulty when a friend broke her ankle but the picture and post was that the ankle had now been set and she was more comfortable. You can't respond with more than one response - a 'sad face' sorry you broke your ankle, 'like' I like the colour of the plaster cast and 'happy' glad you're feeling better. Modern world problems!

It's funny this came up today (not really, just a coincidence. ;))
One of my latest assignments is making a video on my own personal brand, the brief is:

Discuss which social media platform you would like to use to present your skills and accomplishments in a professional manner. Also give your reason for this and why this choice is a better option compared to other social media platforms (1 to 2 minutes long).
Design and record an elevator speech or a personal branding video or audio for use when networking in person between 3 and 4 minutes long. It should consist of a quick introduction of yourself, who you are, what you do and what you hope to do in the future (1 to 2 minutes long).
Finally reflect on the entire process (1 minute long).

Barring this forum!!!! - which I don't class as social media anyways - I pretty much think all social media is, at best, time wasting chatter, and at worst judgey people feeling crap about themselves and transferring that onto others. As I have never needed an online professional presence working in local government, this is an interesting exercise in bull**t:cwl: However, in the post-Brexit apocalypse to come (in my word, anyway) I could well be looking for a new job so maybe it will come in useful!

That’s an interesting assignment! Do you think they’re thinking of LinkedIn? That sounds like the only ‘platform’ which fits the business profile, but maybe I’m not looking in the right places :)

Well it's the one I'm going for - and unless anyone has a particular creative job and picks Instagram, I imagine everyone else will too.
This is already my 2nd video of the course - seems they like to mix things up a bit on the assignments.

Exactly. This is why I’m still on it too, even though I find it irritating at times.

I find the facebook groups interesting and a useful learning platform in subjects such as dog training...Fenzi, IMDT, Clicker gundog and the like. I am afraid I don't tend to follow "people" as such on Facebook, much prefer a quiet chat, sitting on a sofa, coffee, or a friendly personal message. Call me old-fashioned! :) The one thing that truly bothers me about facebook is that you just can't unsee things, they catch you out when you least expect them too and leave you upset for ages.
