Rourke is ill

So sorry to hear this, @ Jelinga. About Acupuncture though, Barley (dog before Solstice) was treated very successfully with Acupuncture for arthritis. Trevor, very sceptical about it, had to admit he was impressed. The friend who carried out the first session at our house for no charge worked for several vets locally and said that Labradors were on the whole the breed of dog she had the most success with. A ray of hope perhaps? I do hope so.

Snowie had acupuncture when he was first diagnosed with a slipped disc. We saw a holistic vet who was recommended by our regular vet. He was very quick with inserting the needles. They were very short. He just pinged them in up and down the spine. His assistant was brilliant at distracting Snowie with treats given very slowly. I don’t think Snowie even knew he had needles in his back.

Nevertheless the holistic vet felt that in this case the acupuncture wasn’t effective, and for the remaining sessions Snowie had laser treatment, which seemed to provide an excellent result.

I’ve started giving Snowie homemade turmeric paste. Curcumin (active ingredient) is supposed to be a good anti-inflammatory that doesn’t affect the gut (no nausea or diarrhea). I’m hoping it will be effective because his back has flared up. Hopefully seeing a physio for him this week.

@Jelinga I hope you can find a different treatment for Rourke that won’t make him feel so sick. It is heartbreaking to hear what you and he are going through. I feel for you.

The vet I worked for did acupuncture, it never seemed to impress me. I have had acupuncture, didn't do a think for me, but I can't remember why I had it!! However, I am always willing to give it a try for Rourke, especially after reading the above posts, I am wiling to try anything.

Interested to read about the TUMERIC past (had to put it in capitals otherwise it insisted on saying numeric!) how did you make the paste @M.F?
