Just after lunch, the heavens opened and the sky was black , but Reuben needs a walk come what may so on our way to our closest M&S for goodies , we called in at a local dog exercise field by a lake where there is limited cover . Knowing that Nelly wouldnt even set paw out of the car , I took a dummy for Reuben so that we could do a little training , at least he would be having a run ! Nor surprisingly , the field was empty but then , just before we got to the gate , a man walked up with a Japanese Akita and went in before me . He let the dog off lead so I waited for a couple of minutes for him to clear the gate area and then went in with Reuben , whereupon the Akita came charging over , bowling Reuben over and jumping around like a thing possessed . Now Reubs is sociable , he loves the company of other dogs , and loves a good hoolie but when he knows I have his dummy , all games are off and he changes gear completely . " Mine wants to play " shouted the man as his dog kept jumping on the back of Reuben who was trying his hardest to ignore it , eyes glued to me and the dummy . I called out to the man, saying that my dog didnt want to play ,that he wanted to do some training , to which he replied that he could not keep his dog away from us because thats what she comes to the field for , to play with others , and what harm was she doing ? I then suggested that I walk in one direction , and he go in another , its a huge field so plenty of room for dogs to do their own thing , but he called back to say that she would follow us as she " just wants to play " . At this point I lost the will to live , so soaking wet and bedraggled , we trudged back to the car , went to M&S , came home and did some dummy stuff, in the rain , in our garden xx
