Good job on catching it early.
What drops do you use, @Candy? I want to talk to the vet again about managing Pongo's ears and am looking for options....clean her ears once a week with drops from the vet and cotton wool
Just done them this afternoon, bottle still to hand! What drops do you use, @Candy? I want to talk to the vet again about managing Pongo's ears and am looking for options....
Squirt as far into the ear as possible ( this is vet's advice) massage ear for about a minute per ear to encourage drops to go as far down as possible. Allow and encourage dog to do mahoosive ear flapping ( this helps to move the ear gunk upwards and outwards) wipe aforementioned ear gunk from ear with damp cotton wool ( most satisfactory) Reward dog hugely (chicken, sausage, you know the sort of thing,)and big big fuss and praise. Joy actually seems to like it all now, although it has taken us a while to get there! Good luck with your lovely Pongster!xxxThanks @Candy - that's good to know. Do you put the drops actually into the ear canal, or just wet the cotton balls and swab?
And do you just clean the outer ear, or do you get your finger in and do an excavation of the inner ear![]()

It really does seem to vary from dog to dog. I don’t need to clean my dogs’ ears, either, and think the advice is, if they don’t have any problems, it’s best to leave well alone.Rourke is now 8 years old and I have never cleaned his ears, they are lovely, clean pale pink![]()
That is slightly weird...When I was a vet. nurse, I used to love 'smelly dog ears' - dogs who had come in to have the cleaned out under anaethesia.
