Sore tummy

I don't attempt justify my meat eating, other than I enjoy it. I eat fish because it's OK an it is good for me. I eat some veg, because, tarted up, they're OK. I don't eat pets, they are family and eating family is illegal and weird. I don't eat horse, they are generally pets. I don't eat dog. Cows, generally, are not. I eat cows. And pigs. Lambs....well I just don't like the taste.

Scooby came from a vegan family. They fed him a vegan diet - no doubt researched. His coat was abysmal and his stools were enormous and squidgy. His arthritis was crippling. IMO you should not, cannot feed a dog a vegan diet.

I can't do tofu. It's horrid.
I also used to hate tofu. But then I discovered really firm tofu and O-M-G it is delicious!! I made a delicious ramen noodle soup the other night. The broth is blandish. But then you drop in fried cubes of hard tofu that have been marinaded in soya sauce. Delicious little umami nuggets!

When I was working at the vet, a nine month old pup was brought in, referred by homeopathic vet, it had been fed a vegan diet and sadly died.

It's unethical to feed an animal which evolved to eat meat (mostly) a vegan diet which it hasn't and can't consent to. It is us that has chosen to have the the vegan vegetarian carnivore ethical crisis and nothing to do with the animals that depend on us to care for them properly. My dogs and I eat a balanced healthy diet.

I tend to agree with you - but Brodie's hypoallergenic food is soy-based and has no animal protein. So I suppose that makes it a vegan diet? He seems to really like it, to my surprise!

I have a friend whose GR can't eat animal protein after consuming poison many years ago, so she's also on a special vegan diet. But it's been carefully formulated to provide for a dog's nutritional needs and is a far cry from a DIY approach. And even if I were vegan, I wouldn't choose to put a dog on it because as much as it "does the job", it's certainly not their optimal diet.
