I have permission to share Spencer and Terry’s training journey. They are no longer doing the two weeks at the hotel due to the virus, so all their training will be from home.
I’m such a lucky puppy walker and so excited to follow their journey.
Terry has no vision.
Part one - the first bit refers to a Facebook group I run for Guide Dog owners and puppy walkers.
“Thank you all so very much for your amazing comments and good wishes today regarding my first day with Spencer.
There are so many wonderful comments, I just cant get to reply to them all - but please note, I have listened to each and every one of them, and it means so much to me.
I will upload a video blog of my day 1 training for you to watch if you like - its a long one! But I will get better at the videos and make them
More succinct!! I just thought it would be fun to blog our training and journey together
Today was all about bonding at home, with me. Getting to know my partner and out two pet dogs.
My GDMI gave me lots of bits and pieces and went through some
Basics with me.
Tomorrow another GDMI will be coming to take me out on harness walks and start to learn the foot positions, commands etc and get me started.
The smile has not left my face all day, I love Spencer so much and he is making himself right at home with us all.
As I type he is laying beside me, playing with a toy.
It was a tough day for the boarders today, as they have had Spencer for the last ten weeks, and have really bonded with him.
The boarders wrote me a card, wishing me all the best and telling me all about Spencer. They have left their email address should I wish to contact them - and of course, I shall be in touch with them to let them
Know how he/we are getting on.
Once again, thank you for your amazing support.
Here are a few photographs.
Photo one is in our living room. One of my pet brindle Irish Wolfhounds called Sid is laying on the dark brown laminate flooring. On his side, and his gaze is towards Spencer who is to his left. Sid is laid on a blue piece of bet fleece, with large light blue paw prints and smaller black paw prints. The stone fireplace and log burner is behind him, and there is a pile of logs stacked there also. To the right of him is a large bhuddas head in black and gold on top of a marble pedestal.
Spencer is laid to the left of Sid and is a Black Lab/ g ret cross. He isnin the down position and his head is turned looking at Sid.
Photo 2 is Spencer laid in his new Orvis Grey Tweed bed. The bed is in my bedroom against a blue painted wall. And the bed is on a dark blue carpet. Spencer is laid facing the camera, looking up. He has one paw hanging off of the bed.”
