Stick ouchie

Ugh noticed Hugo had smelly breath today but I thought maybe it was the other puppys dried up drool on him, as she is losing her puppy teeth. Finally I took a look, he has a piece of wood from his tree root chew (pretty certain that’s what it is) stuck along his inner back molars and wedged up in to his gums. I tried and tried to get it out but I can’t so, vets first thing in the morning. Hoping it will be quick and easy. Poor boy ❤ Though he doesn’t seem to notice, he’s acting very normal. Part of me wonders if I should bring him to the emergency vet, but other part of me is saying breath… he’s ok, he’s eating and drinking and playing, just 12 more hours and it will be out.

I wonder if I should not give him breakfast… incase they have to sedate him a bit?

If you want to give it try, put a large stick in his mouth to stop him chomping down (to protect your fingers from his teeth), and then try to pull it out.

These things happen. Things get stuck in teeth.

It’s embedded in his gums though, I don’t really know how to explain it. But it’s not between the teeth, it runs along side them but then up in to the gums. Finally managed a photo

Ouch. Stuck right in. They’ll likely need to use a strong grip to grab it and pull it out in the same direction it went in. I’m sure it will come out easily. Best of luck with the fasting—that will be the worst part!!

I once got a stick stuck in my shin!! I was walking on the mountain and stepped on a stick that snapped and poked me in the shin as I was stepping forwards. I thought it would come out by itself. Then I tried to pick it out myself. Rather sore!! Eventually a week later I went to my GP who used a needle and easily prised it out in a second!!

Hopefully they won’t prescribe antibiotics for this. So over prescribed in dogs. And humans.

Ouch that sounds painful! Least they got it out quick for you.

I’m very curious how fasting will go!

No fasting or sedation necessary!! 😛 However, I have been putting off going to the dentist. I wish they’d sedate for that. Maybe I should try a vet instead!
Eurgh, dentist is no fun is it? Especially not if you're nervous. I did ask ours the other day of they do sedation (for a friend who's super nervous), and apparently they do - in that they work with your GP to arrange sedatives if needed and take it from there. I think the dentist is marginally more expensive than the vets, so maybe the vets is a good idea...

Fasting was easy, no problems! He never asks me for food when it’s meal time, usually it’s me going oh gosh I forgot to give you dinner are you starving?! 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’m used to Axel and (I think probably most labs?) who would start giving me reminders an hour before mealtime!

Just waiting at the vet now to go in. Hope it’s quick and easy🤞

Home now, poor boy is quite drunk still, they said he will feel out of it for 4-6 hours…ooph. He had a fever, and it was definitely infected. But they said that the wood must have dislodged itself this morning as there was just a hole left which was draining. So definitely good he went in still to get it flushed. She didn’t want to give any antibiotics yet, she wants to let his body do it’s thing and if I see no improvement with smell and it’s still looking icky then she will give me some antibiotics to take home.

Before sedation…

After sedation in the car and then at home after breakfast and napping on my lap ❤

His whimpers are breaking my heart. He sleeps for about 10-20 minutes then wakes up crying ☹ Just 1-3 hours to go. By the look of how things are going it will be closer to 3 hours
Oh baby, it sounds like you’ve got a bit of waiting on your hands. It must be so disorientating, poor boy x
