Stilton the Mighty

We had our 4th puppy training session this evening, and lasted the whole hour although it was touch and go! Stilton found it tricky to stay still for extended periods, which is different from at home - but so many more distractions and different set ups of course. We practiced sit, stand, and lie down; we played the helicopter game, where you ask for a sit, then hold a treat above the pup’s head and bring it down towards them, if they keep sitting they get the treat if not it goes back up; the crocodile game where you hold a treat in an open hand at pup’s head height, if they go for it you close your hand and eventually they realize if they sit back they get the treat; and finally some loose lead walking. Stilton was excellent with the right motivator, the trainer gave me a couple of cocktail sausages and we were on fire!
Here’s one of his rarer still moments

Hardcore teething at the moment, which means Stilton’s going from gentle boy to monster shark in split seconds. Also he’s waking up with it - this morning I was up from 3.45 to 5.30 with the poor sausage, cycling through the chew toys and frozen things. IMG_5215.jpegHe remains utterly edible!

We visited my mum’s dogs Jambo and Zorro this afternoon. I feel conflicted with them, as my mum is so keen for the dogs to get together but I’m cautious of giving Stilton positive experiences with other dogs, and Zorro is young and overexcited, without any puppy experience. Anyway, we did it - Jambo was the perfect uninterested uncle, see below

Zorro was over the top, highly focused on me and my treat bag and a bit protective with a few snarls at Stilton and some robust bundling. After some huffing my mum shut him inside, and Stilton was remarkable in his good manners and resilience. It wasn’t ideal, but not catastrophic and Stilton’s slept for 3 hours since.
