Stolen dogs.

Just catching up with the local news. According to Dogs' Trust on average five dogs a week were stolen in Yorkshire last year. Just awful. GGJ is rarely out of my sight but I will be even more vigilant now.

The two Labs who were stolen near to our home have not been found, its three months now and no news at all . I find it very worrying indeed , try to vary our walks as much as possible , it must be a nightmare for owners , awful , maybe the punishment should fit the crime x

Makes me shudder. Just awful. One of my friends dogs was stolen a couple of years ago, just heart-wrenching for them.

I really just don't see the point of stealing a dog, I know they can do bad things with them that I shudder to think of but why other than pure malice would you take someone else's pet. It makes me so mad and upset.

@kateincornwall as soon as I saw Candy's post, I thought of the ones stolen near you. I was really hoping I'd just missed the post saying they'd been found .:(

Having a dog stolen is my worst nightmare. It is one of the many reasons I didn't get another Rottie. Not that all breeds don't get stolen because they do, but certain breeds are more noticeable.

I saw my friend D and her dog Meg.she told me that a man had stolen meg earlier in the week and she'd had to fight the guy to get her back. She was on holiday in Norfolk her and her husband were stopped at a service station. Her husband went to the loo and she got meg out for water and a wee. She was at the boot sorting megs stuff out meg was tired on her lead at the front. She came round to meg with her water and she was gone. She rang shouting and screaming round the car park. People were helping her look she saw a man trying to shove meg forcefully into his car. She ran with 2 men who were helping, she grabbed Meg and they grabbed the man. They told her to go as they would be sorting him out. She got in the car and came. She's still on shock so meg. This happened this week and the person it happened to is so upset. It's horrible to think of what might of happened watch your doggies

Oh crikey. Your poor friend. We were travelling back from the UK earlier this year and stopped off at a petrol station near the Channel Tunnel and a guy in a white van was way too keen at checking Hunter out. My son Daniel had him and I noticed the guy went to walk towards them. I sprinted out the shop towards my son and he abruptly turned round and got in his van. Maybe it was nothing but I had a, bad feeling about it.

It is terrifying. Dog thefts are nowhere near as prevalent in Germany as they are in the UK, people here think I am totally freaky about it, but I am always very careful. For instance, if our dogs are out in the garden (with the front door open), we always have a padlock on the front gate. And lots of people here who do gundog training leave their dogs in the car while they are training with their second dog - they always have a locking system so the dog gets fresh air but cannot (theoretically) be stolen, but I still wont do it.

OMG it could happen to anyone of us. Glad she got her back and people helped her.

She said it's a well know and used stop for people with dogs because it's got a walking area. So there was a lot of dog people around and they all helped. I think that's why the dog thief was there though.

That is an horrendous story about Meg but thank goodness she was saved, just goes to show we must always be vigilant. It breaks my heart to think of this happening to Maisy or any dog. I would not hold back if I caught someone trying to grab her.
