Stolen dogs.

Dog thefts are nowhere near as prevalent in Germany as they are in the UK, people here think I am totally freaky about it, but I am always very careful.
Thank you for saying this. People here think I am nuts as well! My friend Nadine has her chi Fine in her store with her and Fine likes to go and lay out in front of the store. It is a pedestrian street so not really a danger from cars, but I've asked her, "Aren't you afraid someone will just pick her up and take her?". She humours me as she knows I'm a paranoid American, but I know she doesn't really think about it.

I'm incredibly conscious about theft and reading this thread makes me feel justified. Poor Meg and her person - thank goodness strangers came to the rescue.

It's desperate times in the UK and people because of the legal situation see stealing dogs as easy money with not much comeback. I'm careful and try to encourage others to be careful and not seem too paranoid. The law hopefully will be changed and dogs will not he such a lucrative target. If you are Getting a bad feeling about someone act on it don't think you being silly listen to that alarm.

When Stanley used to go to doggy day care they were really careful about dog thefts. If I was unable to go and pick him up, whoever was picking him up had to give a password that I’d given the daycare.

They said though that Labradors generally aren’t a thefts dog of choice. They don’t fetch much money compared to the designer breeds and they’re not really used for bait dogs because they don’t fight back enough. I know near me it’s generally the frenchies and lurchers/Staffies that people go for.

It just doesn’t bear thinking about.
We’re lucky that our garden is surrounded by other houses so someone would struggle to steal him from the garden, but I would never leave him out there if I wasn’t in the kitchen and can see what he’s up to.
