Stopping pee burns on grass

Hello everyone - not a problem for me, but my daughter wants to know whether there is a solution for burnt patches on the lawn where her dog pees? Does anyone here have any experience?

The only solution I know that works is to use a watering can to dilute where the dog has peed , but of course this requires you actually seeing the action ! It used to be said that only bitches caused this due to hormones but this was challenged recently to amend that bitches do more pee at a time, emptying their bladders whereas the boys tend to do little and often thereby causing less damage . I also read once that adding tomato sauce to the food helps to neutralise , it didnt work here ! x

I get Tatze to use the spending pen every time we go outside before she’s allowed in the garden. Echo doesn’t wee on things any more - just up things. If she does wee on the grass I water it. We still get the occasional burn, then I re-seed with some compost mixed in. Our lawn is doing OK.

The bits of wood etc you can see are to stop Echo skidding around on it when he’s hoolying.

I swear Harv's pee is so toxic that any plant starts to wither and die the second he lifts his leg and aims in their direction!

We have burnt patches on the lawn ... and a variety of plants around the lawn too.

Like Kate, I think the only real solution is copious amounts of water applied immediately after the sulphuric acid pee is released. I regularly re-seed the lawn in the burnt patches - and if I'm not careful somebody napalms the seeds before they even start to grow!

A small separate area with bark or gravel and teach the dog to only go in there.

Apparently if they wee on wet grass it is actually beneficial to the lawn. When I broke my elbow last year and Joy and I stayed at The House With No Stairs for three weeks, she weed on the lawn loads, but it also rained loads. A couple of weeks after we'd returned home, Little Brother sent me a picture of their lawn and wherever Joy had weed was super-green. He Googled it and whilst dog wee on dry grass is detrimental to it, on wet grass it is beneficial. They've asked to borrow her next time it rains a lot!

Well I never knew that, I've found this on MIL's lawn, there are unexplained extra tufty bits which have only appeared after Maisy started weeing on it

The stuff which burns the grass is high in nitrogen - which, when concentrated, kills it dead - never to grow back. But nitrogen is good for grass in small quantities - so rainy days or lots of water poured on help.

We don't have grass and put down a patch of fake grass for Maxx to wee and poo on when we first got him. Don't do it as IT STINKS and nothing you do gets rid of it.

He now just uses the side deck that we clear and hose several times per day. We chuck disinfectant over it regularly and also encourage him to 'go' when we are out walking in the park.

I think, from memory, adding a very small amount of cooked tomatoes (juice, passata, rather than raw) could alter the PH of urine a little and prevent some staining? not sure if it works, never tried it, but I've certainly been told it more than once. On my list of dog related issues, the quality of our lawn is about number 506, probably lower. (and a little pineapple juice prevents them eating their own poo? a vet nurse told me that)

The simple and easy solution is just don't give a fig about your lawn.
My OH on the other half keeps moaning about it, especially when I'm commenting on how cute Maisy is when she's having a pee
Now we are thinking of moving and I can see his point, making a half bald lawn look good is going to be difficult.

Cover the lawn in some cheap bark and a couple of plants in tubs - that will make it look good for viewings.
