Tatze's eye

Tatze has an eye wart and today we went to the vet as she woke up with it red and weepy and it's dragging her eyelid down a lot.

She has her op on the 22nd of December.

I'm worried, of course, as she's 13 in April. I'm also worried about eye drops. It's impossible to get them in.

Yes, of course.
I think you can only do what you believe to be the best thing for her. Maybe the vet nurses would have some tips re eyedrops xx

I was worried too Mags, but you will get through this, When Tatze has a cone on with help from your OH to hold her still, I am
sure it will be easier for you then you think. Do not let her rub her eye on the carpet or anything else

I understand your worries re an op but anaesthetics are so much better these days. Have you tried putting the eye drops in just before you feed her? She might be distracted by her dinner.

Could you ask for a gel rather than drops? Our ophthalmologist vet showed us how to put the gel onto an earbud and then wipe it across the inside of the bottom eyelid. Then rub the lids together to disperse the gel.

This is a good idea - a tiny adaptation I’ve made in the past is to put gel/cream on a finger which you then wipe into the corner of the eye before gently massaging the closed eyelid to distribute. Kipper found this far less objectionable than other options.

Finn had an eye wart removed 2 years ago, and I got an eyegel to put into his eye. The first time it was a struggle, but the second gift went very easy for it eased the pain and he knew it was for the best.

Agree with previous comments. A few years ago we were prescribed eye drops - I was very annoyed to discover that I could have had cream instead which would have been so much easier!

I can't believe Tatze is 13! Its always a worry when there's something not quite roght especially when they are older. Big hugs.

She pulls and dodges away. I've tried everything

Mags can you get her to sit in one place which is best for you and then give her a treat. Don't do anything yet you have time. Keep getting her to come to the same place and getting a treat maybe 5 times a day then let her go. If you can get her there she may get use to the first part. She will need to have drop or maybe cream, but it will need to be done. I have found this on line by The dogs trust
