This. You get the dog out of "the position", which gives them a psychological break, like a shake off. You don't lure or encourage them back, you just see what they do. If you've paid in enough to the position, and the dog hasn't had too much (which is totally cool for them to say) then they'll pop back up when they're ready to continue.

Woo hoo! Did this just now with Carbon's backing up practice and he goes away long enough to get the treat and then bounds right back into place and starts backing up again. The first time he looked kind of confused, but it only took him a couple seconds to figure it out. End result: more treats for this 'cookie' game so all good with Carbon!

Tonight we did a shortish session with quick turnovers. Our big step forward was lightly touching front left foot (less preferred) with dremel off. Big success! We also did a quick session on teeth, not so exciting - might need to change from Logic, or it might just have been tonight. Good progress on the whole!

I'm really behind on updating here, we have been doing a few bits though. Also Monty's front left is his no go paw.... but that is his worse joint for elbows and wrist so I'd pit it down to this. We've made progress with the filing

Front left for Willow, too. The others don't seem to have a preference that I've noticed. Out of Ginny's front feet, her right one is both her best and her worst

Ooh, great progress tonight! Short sessions (this is clearly key for success), and we covered a) me shifting position to access back feet; b) comfortably touching all toes with dremel; c) relaxed foot positions on all 4 feet, including sensitive front left.
We also had a quick tooth session- I need to watch the video on this because not entirely sure what I’m doing

Thanks for s everyone and Emily. It is even more difficult, OH is very weak now and can barely walk, I am doing everything though we do have a'package' from the hospital, they wash Mike in the morning and get him ready for bed in evening, but I have to get the chap next door to help me get him upstairs, too the loo and into bed. Rourke is my greatest comfort and we do manage 30 minute lead walks starting today, whoopee. However, twice in a couple of weeks I have been woken with him howling, have to go down and comfort him. I would have him with me but he always goes straight back down, a creature of habit!

@Jelinga I'm glad you've started your 30 minute walks with Rourke. Hopefully it will help a little to get out. I wonder why Rourke is howling? Maybe just all the upset in the house and of course he can feel it. Thank goodness for your neighbour. A hard situation made harder by not having a loo downstairs which would be so much easier for you and Mike.

Another good sesh tonight - Kipper is now offering his front right foot as soon as we sit down. It’s lovely, like he’s at a nail bar although his nails have never been this long - might need to get the vet to do an interim trim while we’re working on it. Ordered a pair of Millers Forge clippers today too, so sharp ones might do the trick.
