The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

Carbon, do you think it’d be worth wearing a lead a bit more? Or a long lead? You wouldn’t get to run as far or as much, but you might get out more.
ML has already said that I must wear my lead if it is after 8am and we are not surfing. Although surfing with a lead might be very good for ML: she needs to get into the water with me!

I think it is very silly to wear a lead where there is no danger of ML getting lost. I also do not understand why she is so angry that I run to meet new amigos. I am a gift to the universe and must share myself! However ML says we must "set ourself up for success" and that means keeping her on the lead so she does not get lost. At the end of the day, por fin, it is better to be on the lead, be outside longer and keep ML happy. When ML is happy, I am happy too. When she is scared and angry, I am scared and sad. Therefore I will try the lead because I am, claro que si, a Spanish gentleman.

Long leads? ML has funny hands and they are hard on her hands. Personally I also think she is a bit lazy. Do not tell her said that, though! Maybe I can convince her to try!

Ahhhh, Signor Carbón! Most delightful it is to hear your dulcit and muy guapo tones on a Sunday morning. I have 3 ideas; one is a stroke of genius (see if you can spot it).
Muchas gracias, lovely lady! Are churches your stroke of genius? I think so, si, si! By the way, when I am in assistance dog working mode, I am VERY good, even ML says so. We do very well when we are out working. However ML feels I should not work all the time. It is our fun times that are not...fun!? Una vez mas, humans are strange!

We have our very own dog field here where we live. ML says I can keep being off lead there because it is safe and secure and I have never found anything to eat there except grass. It was not good for Cassie because she jumped over the wall, but I do not know about jumping, so for me it is perfect.

But @HAH what do we DO in the churches and car parks? Do we just walk around? ML loves that kind of thing, but I think it is boring and try to find things to make it more exciting and then...bueno...things do not usually end well.

Carbon, you’re a good boy to be willing to try the lead more.

Long leads can be hard on human hands, even if they are made of sturdy lead material. Obi suggests something made of abseiling rope, or similar. Plenty to hold onto, nice and thick, and it doesn’t give rope burn.

I use a lovely yellow biothane long line for River. It is so light, never gets wet.

This is the one I use with River .. BIOTHANE LEAD 10m

I had a peak on the man-trailing harness site the other day, and you can get specialist gloves, I guess to keep hands safe if the lead does spin out unexpectedly. I do wonder if those neat fingerless sailing gloves would do the job?

Aye carumba! She has all that! This is why I say, "Maybe she is just a little lazy". I really carry this family in the area of bounce, do I not? :dug:

Oho, well if it’s ideas you’re after…:D
How about some agility on whatever’s around - twos up on steps, front and back foot targeting; maybe take a mat or tea towel to help. Up on church pews, jump onto low walls, a bit of churchyard parkour :)
Or work on something you’ve already got, like round, or spin, or down - but increase duration, difficulty, or distance (I know you know!).
Or search games, maybe switching up the objects like hiding a hanky, or a hair band - excellent for a church or churchyard.
Or have a sniffari - I think you’ve said you don’t want Carbón to pick up food from the ground, so how about small rags kept in a bag with e.g. dried sprats, then you hide the rags in different places (either put Carbón in a sit-stay, or leave him in the car) and when Carbón finds a stinky rag he gets a ‘yes!’ and a sprat reward from your hand.
Any good? I’m sure we can think of others…

Oh I am so funny, que divertido soy, because, no! All it has done on my holiday so far is rain and rain and rain. All the sunshine is in mis sueños, my dreams, and all ML has done has study German and draw pictures of me and my imaginary friends. Te quiero, I love you Cornwall, but please can we have some sun?

More imaginary friends...

Hola todos! ML keeps forgetting herself and taking over MY thread, so now I must take it back. In a very gentlemanly yet firm way, claro que sí.

@HAH Harriet Harriet Oo Oo Harriet!!! ML and I did one of your ideas today: we did Truro cathedral parkour! I was very good at it, though I needed to give ML a leeeeetle refresher as she has not worked at our assistance dog job for so long. She remembered very quickly however and even brought her magic treat bag to tell me when I was very good. When SHE was very good, I just wagged my tail in an especially gentlemanly way and I think she understood.

We went up steps and sat on benches and around bollards on the street and crossed at crossings and walked forward and backwards and in circles and watched other dogs go by! I wore my blue working dog vest with special "in training" signs and people smiled at us and gave us lots of room, which helped keep ML happy and calm. She did not shout "OhmygodnoCarbonno" for our entire walk! Instead she said, "WhataverysmartandkindboyyouareCarbon" which is MUCH better.

And can you believe it, mis amigos, that the entire city of Truro smells like one big fish and chips shop? And it has a river running through the middle? It was magical! ML liked it too and we both had fun TOGETHER. Day one of of our holiday is a SUCCESS!

Oh oh oh, Carbón! Mi valiente heroe, you have been so very excellent in helping your ML explore the new sights and sounds, yes?! It sounds like you did a fiiiine job, as did ML claro está. I am so glad you also got reacquainted with your magic treat bag - for treats make all the world shine just a little brighter, non? For dogs and humans alike.

You have both been heroic today, and your photos are beautiful como siempre. I hope you will both sleep restful sleeps tonight after such a busy day
